I have been looking at these two Squier guitars as a first venture into electrics. Is the Vintage Modified superior to the Deluxe in terms of quality of parts / playability / tone or is it more about appearance? How does that Indian Cedar work as a body wood?

Thanks!

I don't know if one is better than the other, but I would go with the vintage series because the selection is much cooler. Also it seems to me the VM series has more alder bodies in it. If you go to Squier's web site, pick a guitar and click the specification button, you can see what the bodiesis made of.Alder is what most of the American and MIM bodies are.In saying that the Squier Tele Custom is made of Agathis but has an awesome tone, after a few tweaks

I think the Deluxe Series are supposed to be the high-end Squier model, but the VMs and Standards are great instruments as well. Play as many as you can, and pick the one that feels and sounds best to you....
