Hi, I have 4 Squiers and I'm a fan, but my latest CV Tele is out of alignment, so the treble E is far too close to the edge of the neck. I can make it playable by pushing the saddles over to the left, but it seems that either the neck or the baseplate is out of line.
Pity, it's a nice guitar. I wonder if maybe a batch was produced like this-if you're buying one, have a good look.

I've seen this before. Sometimes the neck is not seated correctly in the neck pocket causing (usually) the high E to sit too close to the edge of the fretboard.

You just have to loosen the strings, then loosen the screws (don't remove) holding the neck in place so that the neck moves in it's pocket. If you move it around watching the high E string you should see the string moving further over the fretboard as you pull up. Re tighten the neck screws while pulling the neck upwards. It's an easier task if you have a friend to pull on the neck while you tighten the screws btw. I hope this helps, sometimes the drilled holes won't allow for any adjustment. If not I'd take it back asap.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried that and the neck pocket is too tight. I think the only solution would be to take off the bridgeplate and redrill the holes. Basically I wanted to warn potential buyers to check before buying as I think it may be a mass production defect affecting a batch. Pity, because otherwise it's a good little guitar.

If you relocate the bridgeplate the string holes in the body will be off. You would need to plug and redrill the holes for the string ferrules because they wont move far enough to seat in solid wood. The pickguard will be out of wack and it will just look sloppy. Take the all strings off and replace both E strings with light fishing line (requires less tension to be straight) remove the necks screws and use a spring clamp to hold the neck in the pocket and see if you can move "wiggle" the neck enough to equal out the offset on both lines. if you can try to put in a screw "find the hole that fits best" if you can't fit any screws plug the all the neck holes. If you can't wiggle the neck into line then sand on the neck pocket on the side you need to move to and the opposite side of the neck keep it at and below the body line on the neck, make a pencil mark. Just sand a little at a time. I think with just a little work you can get the neck into shape but you will end up plugging 3 of the 4 screw holes or it will pull right back were it was. Good Luck

Thanks-interesting info. In fact I have measured up the bridgeplate and it is dead centre so it's definitely the neck. Actually, by pushing the saddles skew it becomes perfectly playable, just looks a bit weird. Not being much of a carpenter, I may wait till I next go to London and take it to Feline guitars who have done spectacularly good setups on my CV Strat and Burns Double Six. I appreciate all you guys taking an interest-this is a great little site.
