I was about to pull the pickguard off to get at the electronics of my 2010 Vintage Modified Thinline. However apparently the neck will have to be removed to accomplish this and I didnt have time to do that yet.

I was able to spot a capacitor at the tone pot marked 473K 100V (aka .0047uf I assume)

Also I saw another capacitor near the volume pot marked 102K 100V (aka .001uF I believe)

I can't seem to find a schematic for this particular model and all tele schematics I've seen so far only show one capacitor.

Can someone please explain what the 102k 100v pot near the volume is for? Is that for the neck pup only?

Note: The first cap's value is a .047uf, not .0047uf.

The second cap is to increase levels of treble while lowering the volume. You may have heard of this as a, "treble bleed" circuit. See, some people feel the tonality of a guitar's circuit gets bassier as the volume is decreased, this cap prevents it. Typical drawbacks to this second cap is oftentimes, too much treble is pushed through and/or the volume pot has 'bald spots' where it no longer has a smooth 1 - 10 or vice versa dynamic. If you intend to keep this cap, as you are looking at the volume pot with its shaft facing downward, the capacitor is soldered one tail to the left terminal of the volume pot and the other tail of the cap to the center terminal of the volume pot. This cap works for both pickups as both share the one volume pot.

Gotta love the martian! Another much appreciated answer to my question  This guitar is the one you've been instructing me on adding a concentric pot to, so I can give a tone control to both the neck and bridge pup.

Looks like I'll keep the treble bleed then. I am pulling the neck and pickguard tonight and will be putting in a CTS vol pot, the concentric pot and a paper in oil capacitor (I have a .047 and a .022 to choose from)

How much effect would the .022 cap have as opposed to the original .047? Mostly concerned on the effect to the neck pup which already sounds pretty good.

You're quite welcome!

On the tone pot, a higher value cap will bleed off more highs as you dial it down. If you intend to leave that treble pusher cap, I'd leave the .047 alone.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.
