i still dont understand how you managed to buy so many bad squier guitars if you know when a guitar has mojo, and know all the right questions to ask, you can ask all the questions you like the buyer will tell you what you wanna hear so that you buy the guitar, it still boils down to one thing, trying before buying, you have been stung so many times this way and you are saying there is something wrong with squier guitars but not with the way you purchased them?

the moral of the story is.......... dont buy a guitar without playing it first. not dont buy a squier because they are all dog crap

All the new Squiers were purchased boxed, sight unseen. I was curious to know what kind of quality control Squier had. ...I found out, not good. The used Squiers were played before purchase, and I immediately spotted the flaws and strongly suggested not buying the guitars but my roommate had to have them because she's learning how to buy and sell guitars and she wanted those guitars to learn on (taking guitars apart, assessing year, condition, value).

The moral of the story...be careful of Squiers, the quality control is poor, it's hit or miss, more misses than hits in my experience with no keepers coming across my desk, yet.

...I just consulted on another guitar purchase -- a Brawley 122 HT, Black Cherry, it's on its way! Can't wait till it gets here!

ok so you purchased guitars just to see if quality control was ok? seriously? but you said you were intelligent, why didnt you just go to a guitar shop and ask to see a few?

i really hope your housemate learns a lot more about buying and selling than you. i'm sorry but your story doesnt make sense anymore it keeps changing, all i know is your views of squier guitars are ridiculous, even with the amount of squiers you have purchased that isnt a big enough percentage of worldwide sales for you to say what you have. all this has done is confirmed your poor experinces and deterred you from buying anymore, it hasnt given you the right to tell people that every squier guitar is a bad guitar

when you buy a guitar in a box you cannot expect it to be perfect from the box you will normally have to set the guitar up especially to your liking (especially on budget/entry level guitars like yours and mine) occasionally you will get lucky and the little man putting the strings on in the factory may know what he is doing and come close to a decent setup.

we all know this and would still buy another squier tomorrow because we all set the guitar up how we want it.

moral of the story is...... buy a guitar expect to have to do some work to get it setup to your liking, that goes for every make in the world, squier, epiphone, fender, gibson. unless of course you are having a guitar made to order then it should come setup to your specifications.

just because you may have to do some work that doesnt make it a bad guitar

Yes.

Yes.

...how the hail am I supposed to get a random sample of quality control if I go into one shop and ask to see a few? The best way to do a random quality control check is to randomly purchase a product, which I did. Why? Well, I will be playing out in the public and I don't want to promote a guitar that is not playable, to my standards, out of the box.

And, the rest of what you said is poop. Let's dispense with the poop, it'll get you no where with me.

simple really walk into the shop and ask to view a bullet, a standard, and a CV not from display that shoould be random enough, or go to diferent shops makes it even more random.

you have stated previously that you know people that play squiers live (for whatever reason) this instantly disproves your theory and views that all squiers are unplayable, if its good enough to gig its good enough to play it really is that simple.

do we have to keep repeating ourselves about personal preference?

poop? are we back at school? and yours is getting you nowhere have you not realised it yet? bit of a silly thing to do come on a forum where evryone enjoys sharing their great experiences with squier and you come along and tell us we are all wrong.

i am off to giggle childishly about the word poop

I'm wondering if these guitars even exist. Who the hell buys 3 guitars to see if the company have good quality control ? Makes no sense. And how the hell does going to a guitar shop and trying some guitars constitute "promoting the brand" ?

What a crock of $@!&

"Standards" ? You play an entry level strat, slowhand

well i see your not a "real"squier fan,by the way you talk.the only guitar i have now is my 1999 affinity series strat.this is the real deal.the pups scream,no problem with tuning issues, all other electronics are aok.i've only put a strap lock kit,ans i change the strings about every three months.i've heard the stories of squiers aren't even a fender!squiers are absolutley fender made.i've gigged with this guitar no problems.i'm looking for a squier tele at the present time.i guess being a old school guy,i like to hear those single pups as they remind me of the sixties for sure.as concerts were cheap i saw most of the big time bands,in my day.i don't recall seeing many strats that had major mods.i'm sure someone who is around my age, will remember those bands, and the guitars they used.good luck looking for great squier.

jeez man give it a rest will you, some people change the nuts some dont personally i havent, my guitar sustains extremely well, the tone is just fine, and the strings last as long as they should do. Why do i need to change the nut if it works "if it aint broke, don't fix it".
you are EXACTLY right my friend.AND the SQUIER HATER OWNS A MUSIC STORE?
the only change i have made to my guitar is cavity shielding to reduce hum and it plays superbly and it always has, but if i asked you to play it i am sure it wouldnt infact i would probably feel like trashing it because you would tell me the frets need redressing and the pups are really bad (which are made alongside toneriders, very similar to the surfaris which retail at $60-$70), the electrics are shot and basically its only good for fire wood.

honestly dude you are better off on the fender side of the forum, i respect the fact that your not a fan of squiers honestly i do, but i dont respect the way you have told evryone that squiers are all dog crap. look around this and other squier forums and read how happy we all are with our guitars, some have done modifications and some havent, and maybe you will realise that you really have been unlucky with your experiences of squier. and i dont think you will ever find a squier you will like because its a squier, not a fender.

if pinky and the brain couldn't rule the world, you are not going to stop people buying and playing squier guitars

Quite the thread, gentlemen, quite the thread. I've been playing guitar since 1963 and I started on a Sears Silvertone made by Harmony. I have no doubt that I would probably have killed someone back then to get my hands on a Squier.

Image

Which are "Fender" and which are Squier and which are neither?

Image

Which are made in the USA, Mexico, Korea, Japan?

Image

I own a LOT of guitars. I own a whole bunch of "Fenders" and I own four Squiers. Am I too ashamed of the Squiers to take them out gigging? Nope. Did I play all of my Squiers before I bought them? Yes, though I have bought guitars quite a few times sight unseen and unplayed - never sent one back because it couldn't be set up.

I love a good silly, trolly thread!

Hey, I'm contemplating purchasing the Bugera in your photo (the V5). What's your impression of the Bugera V5???

Wow. What a thread. What's killing me is that someone with a Highway1 is the one causing the ruckus. The only Fender guitar I own is an acoustic electric and I keep hearing that Fender acoustics suck. Well, they have gotten better in the past couple of years. It beat out the Takamines that I was comparing it too.

Now, as far a Squier goes, I currently own 2. I have owned many. Some are great, some blow. It is what it is. Quality differs and you have to play them to find "the one."

My awesome, wonderful, crazy good, kick yo $@! Squiers are E series 89 Korean and 87 Japan E Series (Fuji Gen) strats. First off, the Korean made Squier body is made of plywood. I would put it up against your Highway 1 every day of the week. The neck is awesome. It's that good. It is "American Quality." Also, it has a Fender stamped bridge (I want to say that this year and series was getting Japanese Fender parts). The electronics have been completely revamped. Semour Duncan Alnico II's in the neck and middle and a Semour Duncan lil screamin demon in the bridge. This thing will blow you the hell away. I paid $150 for the guitar with the upgrades. The only thing I did was change the pickguard. I will never part with the guitar.

The Fuji Gen strat.....just wow. I traded a Crate Blue Voodoo for it. OK, I love my Korean strat, but this thing is high quality. I don't know if you have ever picked up a Japanese strat before, but these Squiers were probably better than a lot of American Fender during this time period. It's a sunburst body and it is mint. The neck...what can I say, but wow. The maple neck is supurb. No doubt in my mind that it beats any MIM, Highway 1, and a lot of American made Fender I've played. The pickups are straight wound Fender American alnico pickups for that vintage sound. The bridge, the tuners, it's all Fender Japan and great quality. Believe me, not all Squier guitars are crap. You have to know what you're looking for and know it when you find it. The name on the headstock means nothing to me.

Fender Am Dlx Telecaster
Gibson LP Trad
Fender Am Std Strat
Epiphone "John Lennon Inspired" Casino
Brian May Red Special (Honeyburst)
Maton EM225C-SS
Affinity Squier Strat
Tokai "Love Rock" LP with P90s
Kramer Night V FR
Epiphone SG-400

I probably play the Affinity Squier more than any of the others (toss up with the Squier and the Telecaster to be honest), it feels right.
At the store, a salesman told me that I'd be surprised by the quality of the Squiers, so I asked to try one. He was right! Even though I had a MIA Strat, I brought the Affinity.
I've changed pups and redone the electronics, yes I admit I didn't love the original pickups. But I wouldn't mod a guitar I didn't want!

I feel for people's negative experiences, and getting instruments of questionable workmanship. I've been there, and had my fair share of bad guitars. I think I've learned my lesson, though, and I try before I buy (except the Brian May, but that's another story). What I have now are keepers (admittedly, the Epi SG I only keep because it has been signed by all my family/friends).

Morale of story: Don't be mislead by labels, or other people's opinions. Get what you like, and don't get stuff you aren't sure of! I'm quite surprised that someone is complaining about buying a musical instrument without trying it - then making blanket statements about the entire range. I love my Squier, others do too - that should say enough about the product!

Only came here because I'm also a proud modified Squier owner, now I've written an essay... sorry.
