Hey Everyone,
I Just bought Squier Affinity Strat Pack for Xmas and I been researching on some upgrades that I'll be doing as my budget allows. I'm going to change pickguards, knobs, pickups etc. and I haven't decided to do my own wiring or buy a pre-wired pickup. I came across this David Gilmour pre-wired guard. I haven't found any forums on Dragonfire pickups and was wondering if anyone is familiar with them. Or any other recommendations you might have.
My taste in music, varies with my mood. (CCR, Eagles,Moody Blues,Queen,Pink Floyd, Clapton, etc, etc, etc.)
Cheers.

I am all for modifying my guitars. However, installing a $130 wired pickguard assembly on a guitar that typically retails for $180 or less seems like a waste. If you want to mod your guitar, do it yourself and save some money. Either that or you should have waited and bought a better guitar and amp.

I hate to disagree but a loaded pickguard is not a bad way to go for a couple of reasons.
#1 You should upgrade the pots, cap, jack, and switch along with the pickups.
#2 Not every new player can solder well enough to do a good job.
#3 You can slap the old one back in when you trade it in or sell it.

Thanks for your replies.
I bought a Squier because of the price and I knew I could modify it a bit at a time. I did the math on buying the parts separately. Add in tools, solder, digital multimeter, etc. The difference in savings is about 20 bucks. Add in the fact I haven't wired a motherboard since the price of computers dropped where it's cheaper to just to replace it. I'm not up on my soldering skills and I have nothing to practice on and I'm certainly not going try on new parts. My stock pickguard I want to keep as IdahoRed suggested. In case I get proficient enough to upgrade to better a quality guitar and use the mods in it.

Will my mod sound like Clapton's or Gilmour's, never. From what I've read here and at SquierTalk anything will be an improvement.
Just in passing, just because my 67 Camaro had a 327 emblem on the fenders, didn't mean, I didn't have a rebuilt 454, 60 over, totally modified, under the hood. Did it make it a 69 SS/RS 427 alum block Z28. No. But it sure was fun to drive.

Anyhow, back to my original post, has anyone dealt with Dragonfire and how did you find
service and their parts.

Cheers.

Cheers.

well it looks like i am going to have go out and get me a s/h affinity and start building a squier dave gilmour replica collection haha. these seem to be a good buy in my opinion, do a goolgle search on dragonfire pickups there are some pretty good reviews on them. dragonfire have freephone number you could always give them a call to see what the returns policy is and so on, but honestly the sound clips on the website give you an idea as to what you should expect if you get the dfdg hell i may even get one before i get the guitar to put it in

Funny, a while ago I was considering doing a Gilmour Strat as I was at a loose end. That was until I discovered the effects he uses! Check this site, http://www.gilmourish.com/, gear used album by album. Without a few thousand bucks worth of effects no matter how good the guitar turned out it wouldn't sound like him :?

DG uses a lot of effects always has thats part of the pink floyd sound, but the website lists all the effects he has used over the years it doesnt mean to say they are on the pedal board or effects rack now you can get the gimour sound from other cheaper pedals but i have always thought about the emg pickguard and thought that it is too expensive and here is the solution. i also checked gilmourish and went out and got some cheaper fx to see if they made a similar sound you will be surprised

Yes, I have Dragonfires in all of my guitars and they are one of the best buys online. I am on a first name basis with Ken Aguillar who makes them. These pickup are wound to the same specs as Fender, Gibson, Emg's, you name it. He uses ceramic and Alnico magnets etc. His humbuckers are wired so you can coil tap them if you want. Actually, they will build you a custom Strat pickguard anyway you want it wired and with what pickups. The standard sets of single coils are better than most Squiers and even some MIM's. His Texas Specials are incredibly hot and clear, bluesie to the bone. He also does active pickup set ups too. I have never gotten anything from them that wasn't exactly what I wanted or better. And his prices are the best quality for little money I have found. I have been buying their products for over 5 years now for my guitar shop in northern Oregon. TNT guitars is his company name and they are locaqted in Klamath Falls Oregon in the good ol' USA.
