Way back in 1995, I bought a brand new Fender Squier Strat and amp for about $200 or so. The guitar sounded really good, felt good, made me want to play it. Three months later, my orders came in and I was going to S. Korea. It was ironic that I was going to Korea and just bought a Korean Squier and didn't believe I could take it with me. I sold it to a buddy going back to California. I miss that guitar, even bought one that looked similar in Korea. That guitar was horrible, terrible action, lousy pickups, it just sucked. Brought that one back to the States and promptly sold it. Still wish I had the first one.

I've been on and off again looking for a 95 Squier (Alpine white, maple neck, sss config). This past weekend, I found a 96 Squier with a Rosewood Board. But this guitar was made in China. Was squier produced in China in 96? Is there a quality or tone difference between the two? Mostly I've heard the Korean models were better, but recently some say the Chinese models are better in the mid to late 90's. Does anyone actually know? What's your opinion? Find a 95 or older Korean Squier or 96 or newer Chinese Squier?

IMHO of these squiers, I have found that the Korean ones out do the Chinese for those years. They just seem to be crafted better. But if you ask my preference, I'd go with the Indonesian squiers, those were pretty darnsolid. I have an Indo tele that is pretty awesome. But if you look at some of tese Chinese Fenders these days, ie.: tthe "MODREN" series, those actually feel prtty darn good to me. I feel if you get a good neck and solid body, you can upgrade alot of hardware and electronics to acheive some good sound.

I was thinking the same thing. The 96 Chinese one was really beat up and the guy wanted $200 for it because it had the 50 years of Fender sticker on the back... Most I was going to pay would of been $150 if it came with a HSC.

I've played the newer Classic Vibe series. Very nice guitars. But also played the affintiy series and its better off being a piece of wall art then a gigable instrument.

I dunno about all that. I used to play out with an Affinity Telecaster, and I dunno, maybe it was a good example, but I never had any complaints.
