Hello,
I have a Standard Squier strat that has been set up for me and plays very well. Instead of buying a new American Fender I decided on new Texas Special pickups as a upgrade. I replaced the originals on Saturday. The guitar tested fine and so I put it back together and restrung. It played and sounded great. I came back an hour later and the bridge pickup no longer worked. I took it apart and looked around eventually cleaning up some solder points. Tested fine and put it back together. I played it for an hour and set it down. 2 hours later the middle pickup did not work. I took it apart thinking I fried the crappy Chinese switch and replaced it with a Fender switch. I tested again and it was good so I put it back together and played it for another 30 minutes and all was well. I came home from work to play my greatly improved strat and once again the bridge was not working. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be. Of note there was an extra wire that was soldered to the base of the Chinese switch that came of the lower pot (the wire was black and I think it is some ground). The schematics for the new pickups and the Fender switch had no such wire included so I cut the end and tapped it to the back of the pickguard(not hooked up). If all of the pickups played fine but the Bridge pickup stopped working just hours later (it seems to have a faint bit of sound if I jack my amp up to 5 or so I can barely hear it) that seems to me to be a bad solder job. Any thoughts?

could be bad solder, broken wire somewhere maybe, you said it happened on another pickup too, did you also change the pots (vloume, tone controls) sometimes they can overheat when soldering. just a few ideas

Well, after discussing the issue with a few more knowledgable folks I took the guitar apart and busted out the multimeter. The neck and middle pickups checked out fine, 6.5K but the bridge would not give me a consistant measurement at all...anywhere from 2-300+ K down to .XXX K. So I removed them and they will be returned. Just goes to show you that as simple as a pickup is it is possible to have a bad one.
