I have just been looking at another forum and a guy has just purchased a 2007 mim standard that he was assured has never been used just because its still got the plastic on the scratchplate, he is having problems with it going out of tune quickly. he also said he has put new regular silky strings on it everyone is telling him to deck the trem (basically making the trem inoperable by blocking it) can't see the point myself, or putting new tuners on it.

no one has picked up that the new strings are possibly a different gauge from standard fit strings and that a professional setup would probably solve the problem please people i ask you if you are going to advise someone give advice that's practical, and not unnecessary nonsense. at least a professional setup would be able to ascertain if the other work was necessary

first off, ditch the slinks and put on some GHS TNT's. Secondly, you are correct, it just need a good set up. A number of reasons can come into play here:

-different guage = intonation problems
-spring tension could be off causing it to slip tuning
-string just haven't been stretched or broken in

I have my trem set up as floating and have done a proper set up. No matter how hard and much I push and pull on my whammy bar, I don't lose tune. Remember, Blocking isn't the answer, it's just a preference.

oh i dont know i use super slinkys they are pretty good but thats down to preference, but yeah i posted and told him get it setup properly as it would cover everything that would cause the tuning issues, he had stretched the strings, just some idiots were giving him completely the wrong advice, my bridge is floating too i dont see the point in having a trem and not being able to use it, i dont have any tuning issues either.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on giving the wrong advice on a forum because it can cause even more problems thatn someone already has, and youre gonna end up with a guitar that sounds horrid and plays like it just came from the local tip

scrap the decking idea that has nothing to do with it thats all about preference, its not the tuners either. if you have put different strings on from stock it will affect the intonnation and this will cause tuning issues and as i have said it has been stashed away for a number of years not played or tinkered with so the tuners shouldnt need changing anyway as they havent been used, if you get it setup this will cover all the usual tuning issues and if anything needs changing they will tell you before they do the work. i havent decked my trem and use it quite a lot and dont have any tuning issues.

I am 98% certain if you do this it will cure your problem spend your money wisely and use the tremolo arm its there to be abused.

i just posted this on the thread hopefully subtle enough not to offend but blunt enough to get the point across

New tuners, blocking or decking the tremolo, or any other modification is a personal preference. However stretching the strings and re-intonating would serve as a better answer for tuning issues. If said player went up in string gauge, attention to the nut may also help. And let us not forget to lube the points of the guitar where metal strings continuously touch metal hardware.

We must not forget the basics for guitars before adding in more advanced advise such as hardware changes.

Get yourself the proper tools and learn how to do a setup, follow this:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... etup-guide

If you still have issues only then bring to a pro, at least you'd be that much wiser.

I've found the nut is usually suspect no1. Lubricate it, change it.....it's a cheap fix either way. Learning to set up a guitar is absolutely crucial imo. I always found it odd when people automatically suggest decking the trem. My trem is floating and I have solid tuning. This tells us that floating trems do not cause tuning problems.

they wouldnt use a floating trem if they did have tuning problems.

i cant see the point in buyina guitar with a floating trem them decking it, surely you would buy a hardtail

Unfortunately Fender does not make the following Stratocasters: Highway 1, American Special, American Standard, or American Deluxe with a fixed bridge. It is hard to find a Strat with a hard tail bridge. I know there some artists models that have them.

LOL. I meant being sold new now. I couldn't afford a late 70's Strat today unless it was either a dog of a guitar or someone just did not know what they had. :D
