While passing a pawnshop today I noticed a 24" scale DuoSonic
and ending up scooping it for song. It's a great guitar in a lot of
respects (love the neck profile!) but it suffers from the three-saddle
intonation issue.

I like the Wilkinson pivots, but not sure if I want to put that much
money into this axe. (More than I paid for the guitar!) I don't have
the facilities to drill, tap and manufacture my own saddles so I'm
looking for another alternative.

I'd like to start cheap with a set of beveled saddles and I'm wondering
about aluminum saddles which are inexpensive, rather than brass ones.

Consider the guitar-would it be worth going with brass?

Hey Mike, have you checked for some compensated saddles on the ebay? I've seen some up there for around $20, though they're for teles, but I'm sure you can make them work. I used to have one of those 90's duo-sonics in dakota red. Fun guitar, but that saddle issue killed it for me. I had installed a seymour duncan hot-rail humbucker in the bridge as well. ended up having more money in components than the actual price I paid for it.

Well yes, and I also have an older set here, but I plan to flip this one
so trying to make it a decent player at the lowest cost - - of course,
if it turns out really nice, I could bond with it and keep it. :D

I know what you mean. I had given mine to a kid that wanted to learn and then it ended up in the closet. Well I was able to get it back and trade it for a marshall 4x10 cab. Have you looked into the compensated nut? I've never had a chance to deal with them, but it may be cheaper to go that route.

Well, it has 10s on it, but with the shorter scale it feels 'right' and
I'd rather not mess with the nut. I did find some saddles that I'm
going to try and see how they work out though.

Scroll down a bit here - I need to put a Stew-Mac order in anyway :

that's a darn good deal there too. Let me know how they work out. FYI, a dou-sonic makes a fun little slide guitar.

Rock and or roll dude!

SOLUTION FOUND!!!!!
Get the 1/4" saddles, it is imperative that you get 1/4", anything larger will cause the strings to sit way too high making the guitar unplayable. I got the "groovy little 60's" set, fits perfect and same color as the bridge.
