So I jumped in and bought the J Mascis Jazzmaster. I'm eagerly awaiting it's arrival and already have a plan to modify it. I want to switch out the trem plate with the Japanese replacement trem plate so that I can have a lockout button. Has anyone tried this out and are the trem plates (MIJ or MIA) the same specs?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experience if you've done this, thanks.

I have a MIJ Jazzmaster, and if you opt to use the lock button, you'll end up losing alot of "DIVE" out of your tremolo. I would suggest to just leave it be. As for the spec question, an old buddy of mine who knows his way around vintage Fenders tells me that the MIA and MIJ trem plates are interchangable.
