Hello, my friends

I have a squire stratocaster with a bent neck. It is bent in backwards, i.e., instead of the the logical and natural bent cause by string tension, it is bent the other way.
I send it to a luthier and hte diagnosis was: the truss rod is innoperative, useless.
The only possibility is to replace the complete neck but this luthier toldme that this is a risky opperation because there's no warranties that a new neck would fit correctly in the guitar body, causing problems in terms of intonation, etc, etc.

What do you think about this? And I couldn't find any spare necks for sale in the Fender site so I still have no idea about the cost.

Does Fender sells "spare" necks?

Obviously I won't buy anything like this without seeing it...unless it's being sold by the brand. :?

No you can't get one from Fender as far as I know and even if you could they'd probably charge you the price of a new guitar for a cheap neck. I'd just get one from ebay.

ebay is probably the best place to go, try looking for one close to you so you can see it before you buy, the last thing you want is to buy one that is in the same or worse condition than you already have

Your luthier is wrong .

Maybe my poor english was not conveying the correct message. When I said that the neck wouldn't fit the guitar I didn't meant that it was not possible to assemble. Of course it will be possible, if the neck is a Squire one. What my luthier said was that he could not give any guarantee that the new neck assembly has a good result in terms of intonation and all that kind of stuff.

Your "luthier" is still wrong at best and incompetant at worst. If he cannot replace a Squier neck with a Squier neck and do a proper setup on the guitar, he has no business being in that business.

Exactly what did he say is wrong with the neck? Did the rod break at the adjusting nut? If it did, he should have this tool:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Truss_rods/ ... e_Kit.html

If he doesn't, find someone that does. It's not worth buying the tool yourself as it is fairly expensive.

If the rod is broken deeper in the neck, then yes, the only cost effective solution would be to replace the neck. This is a very easy job to do and as long as the neck is the same type, there should be no problems getting the guitar set up properly. It sounds to me like he just doesn't want to be bothered doing it.

If the rod is not broken and the neck is just bent, you can try loosening the adjusting nut completely. Install a set of strings heavier than what you usually use. Tune the guitar and let it sit for a few days to a week. The tension of the heavier strings will bend the neck in the opposite direction and you can then tighten the nut, install the proper strings, and finish adjusting the truss rod. I did this with a bass a friend gave me and it worked perfectly.

Good luck.

Have you tried looking for a another Squire with a good neck and trashed body? I've seen them for next to nothing on my local Craigslist.
