I'm looking for a back up guitar that won't break the bank. I love Telecaster's and did get a chance to play a couple Squier Tele's at GC recently. I was impressed with the quality for the price. The pups were a little tinny, but was trying to compete with 10 other players, so I'll reserve that judgment for my own amps. So my question is, what is the difference between the Affinity and the other models. The Affinity models were much less expensive and I didn't see a lot of difference, and couldn't hear a lot of difference.

Affinity's are cheaper wood, cheaper electronics, and cheaper, well, everything. They are the Squiers that I tend to stay away from. If you like a little more umph in your sound, I'd recommend the Custom II Tele. I love mine. Very well made, and the p-90's sound great.

The Affinity series is a cheaper version, and it says either Tele, or Strat. It is thinner than the Standard series which has the dimensions of a regular Fender. The thickness of the wood gives the guitar better sustain as any Les Paul player can tell you. The standard series is a much better buy. And a Telecaster has a very unique twangy sound to it. Great blues or country or rockabilly guitar. They are known for their fast necks, and unique body.
