Hello Dave. I am not a professional musician but here's some advice anyway. If your guitar feels nice to you, that is all that matters. An expensive guitar will not make you a better player. Only lots of practice will! So keep playing! 8)

Do you have an amplifier? You’ll need one of those. If so, it may already have some effects built in. The only effects I ever use are a little reverb and/or a little overdrive. I wouldn’t be too concerned with effects and equipment at first. Concentrate more on the music. You said you were not new to playing but I don't know what level player you are. If you are a beginner, learn some chords and which ones go together. Practice changing chords. Learn a song or two. Something easy. Many a musical career has been launched with House of the Rising Sun! There are tons of free lessons and tutorials on the internet. Especially on youtube. It may be slow going in the beginning but don’t get discouraged. Keep practicing and you will improve.

:D yea i do have a simple amplifier. it has a built in overdrive only. XD oh yeah. speaking of my level of playing I could do some rock musics like shunkan sentimental by scandal, check that out. but i dont really have any clue on how to do the sound exactly since i dont have any sound effects. what sound effect should i get first? what class? no clue. :(

You could go to a music store and try out some different effects. Or watch some demo videos on youtube. I watched a video of the song you mentioned but it was a live performance. They were not using much effects. Just big Marshall stacks cranked up. It will be hard to sound exactly like that. I think you’re putting too much importance on effects. Learn to play the music and develop your own sound.
