I'm thinking of replacing the pickups on a Indonesian made Squier Strat with Tex Mex pickups. I just have a couple of questions before I do however.

Do I need to replace the pots or not? I keep reading that the pots that come standard are 500K and that I need to replace them with 250K pots. I can't seem to find anything on which came standard :?

The other question is, where do I find a wiring schematic for the installation? Do they come with pickups? I can't seem to find them on this website anywhere. I am assuming if I change the pots then the capacitor will need to be changed as well.

If anyone has done this mod before please reply. The help will really be appreciated :D

The Jimmie Vaughn Strat came with Tex-Mex pu's. I would upgrade the switch, pots and cap to CTS anyway. Don't forget the Jack while your at it. I've picked up kits with everything in it including a choice of caps on ebay for less than 25 bucks. Here's a link to the service diagram for you. :D

By replacing the pots switch cap and jack with the pickups makes it simple, as you can pull everything out without needing to unsolder anything. plus it will make the installation easier because you have clean contacts. I bought a used 5-way switch that the wires were just cut and one lead was a real pain to get off and I had to really heat up the switch and ended up ruining it. plus you can probably sell the whole setup on ebay for a few bucks. maybe enough to pay for the CTS upgrade kit
