I have been looking for a good inexpensive strat for my wife to get me for Christmas I think I have narrowed to to down to either a Deluxe Hot Rails Strat or a Standard. I like the Deluxe too but would like the get one with a rosewood fretboard because both of my Teles have maple, which I perfer. Please let me know if you have any expereince with the Deluxe Hot Rails Strat or the Standard and let me know what you think. thanks

Hi,
I've owned an Arctic White HR Deluxe for just under a year now. I have to say I like it a lot. I'd had a Squier as a youth way back and vowed never to touch one again. I've been a Les Paul player for years and just started to think about buying a strat and putting Rails into it until I saw the Squier. I tried it out 3 times over the next few weeks & just had to have it. Took me a while to get the setup right, but I'm quite particular about that stuff. I added a few bits like roller string trees, an extra spring in the back and had a Tusq nut put in.

Overall it's a nicely put together guitar and a step up from the Standard models. Obviously you lose the single coil vibe in favor of a very hot humbucker(ish) sound. With a well cut & lubed nut the 2 point trem is very stable too. As with any guitar in this price range you have to play them before you buy them though. Great for heavy rock, metal, classic rock & blues. Don't let anyone tell you the Rails can only do metal.

This guy has some nice vids of one...
