Sorry, I posted this in the Fender Strat forum before I seen an actual Squier forum, which is what I get for not looking down (yeah - forum newbie here). Mods, please delete the other duplicate thread.

I have a 2008 50's CV Strat on the way (woo hoo!). I undertsand that this post is very subjective but I would still like to hear others opinions on the CV 50's neck profile compared the MIM and Squier Standard profiles - both of those of which I have played, I have never played a CV yet. I was thinking that if I don't like the CV neck that I will either get an All Parts or Mighty Mite V or Fat as I don't like smaller neck profiles to begin with. I bought the CV unplayed as I always read how these are great platforms to mod from, and if needed I could just change the neck to one that I like as part of the mod process. I am hoping that I like the CV neck and don't have to mod this part of the guitar to save me some $$. I know the best way to find out this is to just wait for it to come, but figured I would still ask other players opinions.

Thanks.

Surely someone has played all three, no?

I haven't played a CV yet, but I do own a 2007 MIM Standard and a 2003 Squier Standard (Special Edition Cherry Sunburst).

I'm thinking of buying a CV this winter, so I will be interested in hearing your comparison when your new CV arrives. :D

BTW: which of the two do you prefer? MIM or Squier Standard?

I'm more fond of playing the Standard (rosewood), It has a narrower neck, which i prefer. However, the MIM neck is faster (maple). The frets seem lower on the MIM, but the edges are a lot rougher than the Squier. Plus, I find I'm always having to tweek the truss on the MIM. The neck wood seems to be pliable as butter - whereas the Standard never goes out.

Didn't mean to steal the thread, but was curious to hear your opinions. Congrats on the new CV.

Thanks for the reply, Doc. Actually, I prefer the MIM better because I like thicker neck profiles. From the little reading I've done the CV necks are slimmer, even moreso than the Squier Standard - so you might like it even more :)

Sounds good to me! Can hardly wait to hear what you think of it. I'm told they sound great. Fact is, I bought a pair of 2010 CV50's pickups that I plan to try out in my standard soon. Not sure if they are different than the 2008's.

Ain't guitars fun! :D
