I have built many guitars and some of the Squier guitars do sound better play better and will out play some of the most expensive axes out there. Its all in style, amp settings, set-up, and of course talent, so yes yours probably did sound better keep playing , dont give it up for anything and one day you will be making the big bank that your idols do today. Stick with it kid. Good luck in all your travels. Azsonone 8)

I'm gonna have to say yes, alot of the time.
I see demo's on youtube all the time of gibsons, ibanez's, and they sound no where near as good as my squier.
But other top models like the SG, the iceman and stuff sound waaaaaay better.

Nice to know I'm not crazy! I test play high dollar Strats all the time looking for that "magic" I've always assumed was there, but they always feel thin and splanky to me.

I've got an 89/90 US Squier Strat and the weight, balance and neck feel are just dead on to me. I got it used from the original owner for $90 as a project guitar (still blows my mind how cheap I got it) and I've done sadistic, evil things that happen in the course of learning guitar electronics but it always ends up sounding better than Strats in guitar shops. I've wired it up using Eric Johnson's violin tone diagram, I set it up to swap pickups using smartplugs, and currently I've got Lindy Fralin Blues Specials in it - not only do these Squiers play better than the money, they can take a freakin' beating!

Yeah! Squier was the first guitar I ever bought. I've still got it, don't use it much though.

I've had my squier a few years now, bought secondhand in a local music shop for £225. I'd actually gone in to the shop because my wife was buying me an amp for a present and the shop owner gave me the Squier to try the amp out. When I got home I thopught 'I've got to have that guitar because it played so well' and I went back and traded a couple of old amps and some cash.

I don't know much about it age etc. but my friend has both a genuine Strat and a Les Paul and I much prefer mine.

Here's a pic of the headstock if anyone has any ideas.

Im guessing by the logo sizes and placement, plus the Made in Japan note, thats probably a 1982-83 Squier, you should have a serial number on the bolt-on plate that you can use with this link to get a better idea…

There are more pictures on my 'Squier history' post on this forum.

You'll see that it doesn't seem to follow any of the general rules.
