Brawley, that Ibanez does look hideous. The thing is, taking wood away from the body of an Ibanez is only ever going to make it more nasal, tonally speaking. I can't believe you'd want that done to a strat, incredible. Only an American could entertain such crass styling.

...why?

I'm looking at some used RG 4 series neck-thrus.

They are incredibly light. I have a S770PB. I went from playing a Les Paul so trust me, I know back pain  I suppose you sacrifice something tonally with a guitar as thin as the S series, but I like mine a lot, very versatile with the HSH pick up configuration, the humbuckers split in switch positions 2 & 4 too. I also like that it has a slightly more traditional neck shape when compared to some of the other Ibanez models.

I tried a bunch of sub $600.00 Ibanez guitars. The locking nuts rocked on all of them, very cheap metal too, the strings ripped through the string locks, and the screws...munched quickly too. The S420's had nasty fret sprout, one...nasty sharp. But, the guitars were indeed light! I looked hard at the S770PB when trading out for an S420wb, compared it too the Prestige 2550's at the time...decided to try a USA Fender due to budget and a sweet n' too sour experience with the RG and S series. How's the trem working on the S770???

I can't knock it out of tune and I have really tested it. Really reliable. I set it up myself of course. I chose it over an RG, but it was more down to factors like styling, both were pretty nice, didn't like the neck profile on the RG. I've had the S series for about 8 or 9 months and wouldn't trade it, that's rare for me.

Nice! Thank you for the advice!

My two-cents worth.

Got a CV 60's Strat. Sounds good, looks good, feels good.

No obvious defects in workmanship.

Could probably be improved with upgrades, but perfectly playable, if not highly satisfying, right out of the box.

Compared it to the American Standard Strat before purchase. I liked the pickups in the Standard better, neck felt fine on both. The Standard Strat felt more "solid".

Unplugged, pure acoustic tone was good on both guitars. The Standard sounded a little tighter, but with more sustain (likely due to heavier build). The Squier was quite resonant, and had pretty good sustain overall. I often practice with the Squier unplugged, and to good effect.

Neither trem system held tune very well, but both needed setup. I haven't gotten around to that yet. Fret edges were smooth, and frets were well seated. Setup of the Squier was in the general neighborhood of "good" straight from the factory.

Opinions will likely vary, based on tastes and experience, but this particular Squier seems like a pretty good instrument.
