It might be a shorter list to tell you which countries Squiers were not made in...

Okay, not really--but Indonesia is on the list of countries where Squiers have been made.

That list also includes: China, Taiwan, India, Korea, Japan, Mexico & even the US.

Fender Squiers made in Indonesia are fake. ??

How come people who sell them clearly state they are FENDER instruments. ?

If the instrument is fake and the seller displays them as FENDER, then they are breaking the Law surely ? Furthermore i would imagine that Fender would be on the case.

I have a 2004 Indonesian (s/n starts with IC or IS.... mine is IC04xxxx)
If you have a legitimate serial number you have a Squier-Fender (not a real Fender)

Quote:
The following is from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier
Indonesian Squiers
IC: I = Indonesia, C = Cor-Tek (Cort), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. IS: I = Indonesia, S = Samick, the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. For example "IC02" Made in 2002. In 2009-10 some Indonesian Squier's had the prefix ICS09XXXXX and ICS10XXXXX. There are a number of standard models that have the ICS prefix some are FSR but some are just normal run models. It therefore appears as though the the S in ICS is only an indication as to whether it is a Factory Special Run or FSR guitar (manufactured by Cor-Tek in Indonesia). It also appears likely that any FSR guitar beginning with ICS will be a Squier 'Standard' as opposed to any of the other models i.e. CV, Deluxe etc.

There are only a few guitar makers really.

One of the biggest is Samick Music Corporation. They are a Korean company that is well known for pianos. They have expanded rapidly and since have opened a plant in Indonesia. Samick was one of the leaders in programming CNC routers to cut more than one body at a time, their high speed routers can cut 5 bodies at once . Then they move and are routed as required. If your guitar came from Indonesia, more than likely it was made by Samick under contract from Squier. They make guitars for a lot of companies along with the JTR line and Greg Bennett line. Which are really good accoustic guitars by the way. The older Epiphone Les Paul guitars were made in Korea, some were made by Samick. As were Korean Squiers.

That's why you see so many guitars made in Indonesia now, because of the Samick factory there.

your guitar is a REAL FENDER GUITAR.i have an affinity strat crafted in indonesia in 1998.you should find all the squier sites, because squier owners will tell you HOW MUCH they like their squiers.strat snobs will make you BELIEVE that a squier isn't a fender product.hook up with squier owners as they'll give the right skinny.

It's real, most people who go to the trouble of faking a guitar will use a Squire and change the decal to Fender. Squire is part of fender, they own Squire. it is their budget brand like epiphone is for gibson or LTD for ESP. other companies like Jackson, Ibanez, Yamaha, and Peavey use their logo and name but offer budget lines. I some cases the difference between a $800 guitar and it's $200 cousin is the wood in the body and magnets in the pick ups. It's the brand name that people are caught up on. It's all part of Fenders evil plot to rule the wor.....er, market and inspire customer loyalty. If the Squire brand was bad Fender wouldn't offer the SAME warranty as they do for all their other guitars.

A serial number alone doesn't tell much about if a guitar is legit or fake.
In general, there have been numerous types of serial numbers, some with a letter or two in the beginning, some only numbers.
Here's the basic info: https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/sec ... uct-Dating
