Cool, that's the great thing about modifying Squiers. They always improve and give you so much for your money. I'm glad you got the sound you wanted and only after a couple of weeks of ownership. Who know what else you might think of doing that will make it even better.

I hope you enjoy your Squier as much as I have through the years,

[quote="jeffo46"]I'll say this, installing the ceramic caps have saved me a lot of money. I was thinking about swapping out both the Tone Pots and the pickups, to be honest with you. Using the Ceramic Caps, give the Guitar a tone much like a MIM What value are these pots and I have N&M, ALL THREE, & B&M,with a three way switch and I really like this cheap guitar.

Hi everyone. I recently got a Squier Standard Strat a few weeks ago, and while it's not a bad guitar, the stock tone pots left a lot to be desired IMO. I thought they made the pickups sound too trebly and if I used the gain on my amp, I would get a lot of muddiness, so a few days ago, I ordered some Fender Ceramic Capacitors from Musician's Friend. They came in yesterday and I immediately installed one on the rear tone pot and right away the difference in tone was noticeable. Now my pickups are much clearer and fuller. Even if I use any gain, they sound absolutely great, thus saving me a ton of cash on having to go out and buy a new set of pickups. So if you want to improve the tone of your Squier, go and buy yourself a set of these capacitors. You won't regret it.

Nice tip! Can you explain a bit more? Did you replace caps or add these? Do you have any photos or instructions you can point to?

I have a new Squier bullet series ( crafted in China ) . I have owned a ton of U.S. made Strats including a 1962 & many Custom Shop guitars. Now I'm poor again I bought the Squier and was amazed. The action is lower than most U.S Strats & the neck straighter. The only problem was the sound. I left the pots but installed a set of U.S Strat pickups & it now feels & sounds every bit as good as a standard strat. One of the best guitars I have owned.

I have the Squier Delux Strat with the duncan design pickups. Although a great guitar.. It does still sound a bit to bright to me but maybe that's just a strat.. Would you still recommend upgrading the capacitor on the treble pot?

Thanks

So I have a 93 MIM Squier with ceramic pups...the pots are tiny and terrible. Would new capacitors still be a good option? Or should I still be thinking about new pots and caps?

Jeffo46

Is it the cap with the 1 review? Did you write the review?

OK so I am convinced that upgrading to a Fender Ceramic Capacitor will improve the tone on all Squires. Now I am assuming that all you need is to upgrade the treble pot or do you do both pots?

Thanks in advance.. :D

OK now here is probably a silly question.. Do any of you know if the Mexicans have the cheap capacitors as well?

Not sure what value cap the OP used was but on my Squier SE which has 500K pots and had a 0.047 cap, I put a 0.022 cap instead and it made a great improvement. The tonal range was better and it just seemed to have a lot more growl.

I also moved the middle tone control to the bridge which really gave me more control over the bridge pickup.

Where do you solder the cap? Do you just look at where the stock one is
soldered and remove the old one and solder in the new one?
