I've posted on here before about this guitar, but I just have to restate how much I do love this guitar, and how underrated it really is.

I bought it kind of on a whim. I wanted another strat, didn't have that much to spend so I was looking used on Craigslist. A few people had been talking about them online and I thought I'd stop by Guitar Center and give it a try. The only thing that I didn't love immediately was the high gloss neck. I loved the shape and size of the neck as well as the sound from the pickups. It just felt great.

A couple of months ago, I had saved some money and I went out on a search for an American SSS strat. I had enough to buy a new Am Standard. But every time I played the American Strats, they just didn't have the feel or character that my CV 60's does.

I ended up buying a HSS American Special because I realized that I just don't need an expensive SSS strat that doesn't please me like my CV 60's.

Since then, I've stripped the poly coating off of the body and given it the relic treatment. I sanded the poly off of the neck and it sounds better than ever. I never want to change out the stock pickups, they just sound right to me.

What a great guitar!

I'd love to see Fender offer a few more color/finish choices on this guitar, maybe introduce a new color each year. I'd probably buy another just to have another one around the office.

I have a CV 50s Strat. I love the high gloss maple neck on mine.

The gloss necks really look awesome..

But I like to take some 600 grit sandpaper to the back of the neck and give it a smooth satin finish. Gets rid of the "sticky" feeling of the gloss, but still looks nice and glossy everywhere else.

I actually go a step further. I use 100 grit and really rough up the neck, then I let some linseed oil sink in for 20 minutes or so, and then use some 0000 steel wool to smooth it out. Your left hand will stink like linseed for a few days but it gets the feel that I really like.
