 The boy is 12 and he takes lessons from me. First he breaks the whammy bar off of his Squier,I take the tremolo to work to drill it out and the easy-out breaks off in the block, his birthday rolls around and his stepdad buys him a new Washburn and a tremolo for the Squier. Lesson day, truss rod is loose in the Washburn along with the pots and jack. He tried to tighten them himself and pulled the wires loose. We send it back to store for waranty work and I sit down to fix the Squier only to find the six holes in the new bridge don't line up with the ones in the body. Worse yet his old bridge assembly is still laying on the counter at the music store. The only thing he has to play now is an acoustic I gave him a few months back. He still came to the last lesson and he's still smiling, what a trooper.

super kid you go for everything you want and I'm glad someone besides me cares. You can get what you want in life through hard work but everyone needs help sometimes. I'm happy to report he got his Washburn back but sad to report lessons are off till next week because of baseball. I like your concern and if you keep up with what you've been doing you will go far in life. Thanks buddy, your friend Garin. :D

I understand that, I have a Schecter but I also have a Squier I use for slide. The best guitar in the world will not make bad player better but practice on a descent guitar will help anyone improve.

Woah, that sucks! :( He is certainly a brave kid for staying calm during it all, if he has that attitude toward music then he definitely has potential, hopefully he will find a guitar that actually works  and then he'll be playing like crazy! :D

I have owned many U.S Fenders , incl. Custom Shops. Most had small flaws or problems. Now I'm broke I bought a Chinese Squier and am more than happy. It's got a brilliant neck , super-low action & great finish. Only prob was the pickups were a little weak so I replaced them with U.S made ones. Now its ones of the best Strats I've played.
It's not what you play but how.

It sucks when you're a kid but that's a life lesson, we all got our share of crap failing on us. If he sticks with the lessons the hard way with an acoustic he'll end up better because of it.

I don't see what a "real" Fender would do for him? I've seen new USA strats show up with broken trem bars. So go troll that "real" Fender nonsense somewhere else.
