I think you have it backwards, the Squier is on the nose and Fender closer to the nut. Traditional Series MIM Strat, the only difference between on with the Squier on the nose and the Fender one was the pickguard is 1-ply on the Squier. Should be a poplar body, but not always.

Here's mine

The story is funky because of all the changes FMIC was going through. Rumor has it that they are the trial run for what would become MIM. So some are American necks and bodies, but el cheapo electronics. Mine has ceramic pickups and terrible pots. The neck is AMAZING and the only reason I bought/keep her. I would like to strip her down and paint her daphne blue.

I, too have, a Black Label Squier, with the Squier in small print at the top end of the headstock. These 94 and 95 model necks were indeed made in America, with USA nut width, vintage style medium frets, and even the micro-tilt disc at the end. The rest of the guitar was mediocre, but easily upgraded. In fact, I own three of these now, each cost less than $200 used, and each neck feels way better to me than current USA or MIM necks. If you see one, buy it! Before i do, LOL!
