i was shopping around at a nearby guitar store 2 days ago.

they were on a 2 day sale and had huge $@! bargains on guitars like Fenders, Epiphones, Squiers, etc.

i found this... Squier '51 for 125$ and of course -- i wasn't really there to buy a new guitar but a book. so i thought i could return there when i got a job and some cash. the guitar was perfect for my brother [beginner] -- and it sounded pretty good; so i could use it too.

well. i found out the model was discontinued.

why? i thought that it was a guitar of the year or something? what was wrong with it?

It may have just been a question of sales. (You know, those guys in the suits that look at figures and go "well, this model isn't moving...we need to discontinue it and promote this instead..)

Sounds like a great bargain though. I'd go ahead and pick it up!!!

Actually about a year or so ago everyone was buying 51s left and right as they were considered to be a great platform for modding, so I don't think it was sales, or at least not selling sales. I think they just became too popular for their own good, and Fender pulled the plug on them because they were outshining some other guitars in the lineup. Actually, the Squier 51, Cyclone, and Fat Telecaster were all pulled or discontinued just before Squier came out with all the different Vintage Modified Series guitars, so they may have just been trimming down things before introducing some new models.

You should've picked it up man..... those guitars are in demand since they have been discontinued..... if you didn't like it you probably could've put it on ebay and got double or almost triple the amount you paid for it

I wasn't in the market for a new guitar and I wasn't interested in a Squier either when I saw it at a local music instrument store. There was one hanging on the wall as a sample and I walked under and looked up and I saw the best neck I have ever seen on a Squier. It is too bad that they discontinued it.
I am glad I got mine. Though the pickups are weak.
