Hi all,

First post :), Hows it going?

Right, ive not been playing for that long but today i went and bought myself a Vintage Modified Strat HSS in a gun metal finish (sexy isnt the word, imo ofc :P).

Only problem i have with it is the Low E, D, B string buzzes / changes pitch one plucked on open... Got on the phone to the dealer and ive got to take it back to get looked at tomorrow, hopefully it isn't a write off lol.

Can anyone tell me anything in regards to the serial number: NHS 1001433 (Made in India... lol)

Im fully aware that the Squier series of Fender arnt the greatest, but according to several site reviews ect this model didnt seem to bad.

Here is a pic:

Indonesian SquiersIC: I = Indonesia, C = Cor-Tek (Cort), the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. IS: I = Indonesia, S = Samick, the serial number prefix is followed by a 2 number year. For example "IC02" Made in 2002.

[edit] Indian SquiersSome Squier IIs were made in India around 1989-1990. The head stock is marked "MADE IN INDIA". Made in India Squier IIs seem to follow the made in USA serial numbering scheme. For example a 1990 made in India Squier II serial number would start with N0 plus 5 digits. The serial number is printed on a sticker located on the back of the neck, close to where the neck attaches to the body. Because the number was placed on a sticker it is fairly common for the serial number to be missing.

Some more recent Squiers, including the Vintage Modified series (serial numbers starting with SH), were introduced in 2007.

That's a weird number. Nice guitar but it looks like someone modded it. If it's a Seymour Duncun leave it but if not you might consider a white or zebra pickup. Otherwise it looks pretty good. The buzzing is probably from the nut. You might have to get a better nut. Graphite would be the way to go or a roller nut. If it's going out of tune on you it's probably the strings slipping on the tuner or the tuners themselves. Try tying the string in a knot on the tuner. More likely someone cut the strings too short and you will have to get new ones.

All the pickups are Duncan Designed by standerd... I thought that serial was strange myself, it must be legit as i have the original caresheet (packaged april 2010) and the place i bought it from is a reputable store locally.

I was intending on changing the mid and neck pickups to Duncan blacks to match it all up, thats eventually though... After some more testing it seems the ringing / pitch noise is coming from the bridge not the neck or nuts.

Thanks for the advice above, still makes no sense though what with the NHS at the beginning of that serial :s.

You might want to ask Fender customer care. They change the letters according to the factory and year. I would definately hang on the the duncans. Not sure how it would look in a tuxedo. I'm thinking maybe a brushed alum pickguard would pull it together. Chrome or black might work also.

The covers can be removed on the singles and changed to black. That would be an easy mod. Pulling the knobs out would be difficult without the right tools. Probably not worth the effort unless you have some really cool new ones and plan on changing the pickguard as well.

Either way the idea is to play the guitar so don't let it sit around in pieces too long.

Enjoy,

Of course i was intending on playing it lol...well, when it sounds as if it should anyway :p.

Just looked up the customer care details and according to them they dont deal with serial number requests which is odd :S.

Does anyone know a specific contact that i can get hold of to get this obscure number of mine checked lol.
