I have just acquired a 6 string Squier (MIC) Stagemaster neck without any hardware attached to it. It has hardly been used so I'm going to put it into service. Having checked the prices of suitable drop-in tuners I think I'm going to go with some cheaper gotoh type ones and put an extra screw hole in - no big deal. I'm assuming these with have to be left handed ones due to the reversed headstock, yes? Next comes the locking nut. I have measured the width of the wood at the spot where the original nut was and it's almost exactly 40mm. Having looked around it would seem locking nuts only come in 3 widths of 41,42, and 43mm so which one do I want? Grateful for any advice. Cheers.

Did the neck previously have a locking nut that was removed?

Thanks for the response. Yes, it did originally have a locking nut and string bar. I have enclosed a couple of pics to demonstrate. It actually looks about 40mm wide in the photo but with a bit of parallax it also appears 41mm! You can see the original tuner mounting holes as well, but as this type of tuner is quite expensive I'm going to replace them with something a bit cheaper but still functional. Info on this model seems quite hard to find.

Hi,

I've just bought one haven't got it yet tho.

What I was going to say was don't forget you fingerboard has a radius so measure the width with a flexible soft tape like one for measuring clothes and see if that missing mm doesn't show up.

Right, so four months down the line I managed to get a suitable locking nut for this beast. However, sourcing drop in tuners for it seems to be an impossible task! I have found three possible avenues to explore using tuners from other fender/squier models that use the (much rarer) single mounting pin type tuners. I have discovered the parts numbers - 0077437000, 0077448000, 0077426000, but getting them in left handed configuration is proving difficult to say the least. Even in right hand the shipping alone is usually 30 bucks! The neck isn't worth that much! Unless someone can point me in the right direction I'm either going to have to fit alternative tuners or take an axe to it! Both scenarios are tempting! Whaddya reckon??
