Hi I have this stratocaster I got in a trade deal and I'm seeing if anybody can give me some info on it. There no serial number on it anywhere however the headstock reads made in japan. I've seen some of these with serial numbers on the neck plates but this one is bare. the back of the neck heel does have the st-with the three numbers. I really am just trying to get as much information about this guitar as I can because I have no need for it anymore and want to sell it. So whatever you know about these let me know so I can make sure to pass this on to the next owner with all the correct information.

Looks like a fake because it doesn't have any decals on the back of the neck or neck plate.

Sorry,

Yeah it could be a fake for all I know since Fender type guitars are the easiest to fake with the bolt on necks and tons of copies out there. However some of the MIJ squiers didn't have serial numbers on the headstocks. And the neck plate on this may not be the original there's one on ebay right now to show how some of these got there serial numbers. And as far as having nothing on the back of the headstock I'm pretty sure most of these guitars had nothing on the back alot of them had the serial number on the front but there's usually nothing on the back.

I appreciate any help on this I can get so I do thank you for your comment but I don't think we can officially determine that this is a fake just because of those two things.

I'm no expert but A Fake Squier? I think it's legit but may have had parts switched out. The value is not there to validate faking this one. I'm not saying it's not a good guitar but fakes are usually sold as Vintage Fender's for more than a New Squier costs

How much do you want for it?

I was hoping to get more info on it and a better idea of it's value however I've had this a few months now and just want to go ahead and free up some room. I would take $250 for it right now. That would cover the value of the item I traded for it and that price is alot lower than most other MIJ squiers I've seen online.

It has all the right gear for a e series.....tuners,bridge, is it 3 ply guard? Is the neck wide? Looks like a e.... Great guitars if it is.... Better than most strats..... Keep it....

I have a friend that has a vintage Japanese Squier Strat and his serial number is on the neck just above the neck plate. He is quite a fan of vintage Squier Strats and indicated that some were made in the U.S. for a short time in the early 80s. They are pretty rare and fairly expensive today.

P.S. Snodgrass I really like those Kustom amps you've got in the photos. I had a Kustom 200 in white that I had from about 1970-72. Wish I still had it.

Yeah thanks.... I've got several kustoms and one krossroads in my music room right now.... my first stack was a Kustom Tuck N' Roll bass amp and now year later I have a room full of them. And when my son was born 2 years ago my inlaws came to visit us and saw some of my amps and I learned that my father in law and his mother worked with bud in kansas and he gave me some framed shares of stock that he owned.

I still have the guitar if anybody wants it.

The only rare Squiers with any value are the original JV (Japanese Vintage ) series
see
www.21frets.com
The JV series had vintage tuners ,often US pickups and were judged better than Fenders offering at the time .The serial number was JV.......... stanped on the neck plate .All the others are just made a price Squiers ,good or bad .A mint JV is worth good money.Hope it helps

do you know if any of the other mij squier's had the serial numbers on the neck plates? there's no serial number on here so i'm assuming the neck plate was switched at some point but since i don't have any number to go off that's my issue right now.

The JV series are very highly regarded and are worth money. Squier strats were briefly made in the USA in the eighties but didn't use american parts. My last Japanese Squier (a '93) had the serial number on the front of the headstock. I really can't see why someone would change the neck plate and remove the serial number? It could be some sort of parts caster, there may be a date written at the bottom of the neck.

there's no serial number on the neck and it doesn't appear that there ever was one (of you read the other responses in here you'll see that some mij squier's didn't have the serial numbers anywhere on the guitar besides the neck plate)...... it has the made in japan on the front of the headstock and there's no discoloration or sign that there was previously a serial number on the front that was sanded off or removed..... on the heel of the neck it has st-with three numbers which is a big factor in how i know the neck is real.... for all i know it could possibly be a partscaster since strat style bodies and parts are so common however what leads you to believe this?
