sorry to post the same question again, but i cannot find any info on my squier other than that the body is hardwood. i contacted fender and they said my tele standard was built on 08-14-1999, it is vintage white with vintage bridge and saddles has 21-frets, maple neck and fretboard. it's beautiful, sounds wonderful and is exactly the guitar i had wanted. i really wonder if it is alder, not agathis, which is a softwood. squier's web site chronicles their history, from day one to present, with the exception of the year 1999. very odd.

They have some knowledgeable Squier folks over there. Could be alder, though you also have to keep in mind that it might still be another wood, and Fender may not know for sure because Squiers are often contracted out to be built FOR Fender but not necessarily made BY Fender. So Fender may just be going on what little information they have from the contractor. Even the contractot may not know because I think oftentimes Squier will get whatever part they need from whoever can supply the most for the least amount of money, unlike Fender who primarily uses the same suppliers for all their parts. So there may be a chance that several body suppliers with different woods were used during that period, and that may explain why they cannot say for sure what it is.
