Dude, just contact customer care. We don't really know much about specifics here. We are fans just like you. If you need advice let us know and we will stear you in the right direction. A pack is not quality just convenient. The amp will suck and the guitar will be o.k. once you set it up. You might find a better quality guitar for the price and get the amp later. You don't need an amp to start out. It just annoys your neighbors if you can't play well. You might even consider using a computer software or a headphone amp to start out. I know you probably want to get into effects right away but if you don't have your "chops down" (Yngwie) that wah pedal isn't going to work on Sweet Child O Mine until you can play the riff like Slash. The the pedal is a whole other learning curb. Believe me I've been playing it for years and still don't have the wah down. Partially because I'm too lazy to set it up.

Have fun and get started,

The SE is probably the best Squier for modding. It's cheap, has a full size body and most fender part will fit without modification. It has the small headstock and a 42mm nut (I think) I had one for a while and it was a sweet guitar even without any mods. I have an SE 3TSB body just waiting for my next project. :)

No they have a satin finish and only come with a Rosewood Fretboard.

According to the specs it's 42mm.

Don't forget it also comes in 3TSB.

I had the white one and it was a nice looking guitar. The white pearl pickguard looks good on the white body.

One thing to be aware of is unless you buy it used it only comes in the pack with the amp.

You can always sand the neck and spray lacquer. It will take a couple of coats and sanding 300 or better. I've gotten pretty good results that way.

As for the body same goes. Just figure out which color works with your design.

Good luck in college,

thanks... been here for a while though... i just can't take not having a strat around me... luckily i live behind a music store but it only has one electric guitar and it's a cort (not really into corts) lool to play i prefer the cheap strat knockoff with the crappy tuners that don't even stay in tune when i'm playing that is in a bar that's practically on the other side of town... mostly cause the guy from the store is a complete douchebag...
