Is your custom the 2 humbuckers tele? Must sound great!

Yeah, its the 2 humbucker model. Sounds good, and is great to play. I mainly so I eventually retire the 20 year-old Hohner L-75 (Les Paul copy) I have had for all 20 of those years and currently use in this metal-ish project I am in, cause I wanted the LP style configuration, but a Telecaster body...

You're right. Working on improving my playing.

I guess I'm just searching for the elusive just "right" sound to my ear. Problem is, what sounds right one day may not not sound right the next day. At least with all the guitars, I can console myself when I don't beleive I sound right, telling myself that I will "sound better" tomorrow with the other guitar.

Or, I just like guitars and can't help but look out for a new one!!

Hey Bowl!

About removing the pickguard on the Squier Standard Tele, noticed the fretboard extends over the pickguard a touch. Does this pose any problems for taking off the pickguard?

Yeah, it might. I mean you might be able to safely bend the pickguard a bit to get it to move out, but I think there is a slight risk of cracking the pickguard. I think it may be necessary to remove the neck, or at least loosen it, but I cannot say for sure because I haven't tried to remove the pickguards off mine yet.

I may be losing it or in need of sleep. Noticed on my Squier Standard Tele that when I pick the high E sounds kinda dead and then in an instant, it (for a lack of better words) twangs. Not a buzz. Maybe picking it hard cause of dead sounding string?

Tried new strings. No change. Maybe a bad lot of strings?

Thought that I may be losing it because now it seems to exhibit the same behavior w/ B string.

Tried messing with the pickup height, but the issue is also noticable w/o amp.

In contract, my Fat Tele and BSB Affinity Tele make a clean tone with high E plugged and unplugged.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm stumped.

Make sure the nuts on the top side of the tuners are tight. You can/should just hand tighten them, but if those nuts get loose, as they often can while re-stringing, they can cause weird buzzing and dead sounding string issues sometimes. Start there, if thats not it....uhh, well check there first

If thats not it, the only other thing I can think of at this moment is did you adjust the action at the bridge any with the little screws on the string saddles at the bridge? If you made adjustments there, make sure the screws aren't loose, and fit snug against the part of the bridge that the screws are at to support the string saddle. If one of them is raised, or shifted during a string change, adjustments, or maintenance, then that could affect the sustain of the notes as well....

One way to figure out if its some hardware issue or electronics is to see if the strings sound/react the same way on the different pickup options, though you mentioned its noticeable plugged or unplugged, so I think it may be one of the issues above, which if it is, will just take a few seconds to fix...

Thanks for the info Bowl.

Gave the high E and the B saddle screws a tweak. I think that did it. The two screws on each saddle were uneven. When I set up the action height a couple of weeks ago, it was late and I was really tired. Need to stop trying to fix things late in evening. At this age, the eyes aren't what they used to be either!

Thanks again!

Glad to hear it worked out for you John! There's nothing more irritating than something that worked right all of the sudden not working right, so I am glad to hear its been taken care of.

Hey Bowl!

Got a Squier VM Tele Deluxe (HH & HH). Excellent quality with maple fretboard. Love it!

Now with the new Vintage Vibe Tele .... Well I'm just gonna have to make room for it!!!!

Which one did you get? I looked and couldn't find a VM tele deluxe at the squier website. Did you get the telecaster custom or the other one with black humbuckers? Please clarify... right now it sounds like a lie. How about a pic for proof.
