Any cheap second hand Fender Mexican strat. Start with a good foundation and your humbucker will sing. Use rubbish and its a waste of time IMHO :)

When you are choosing a guitar, it's all about you. Sometimes the guitars that other people recommend for you aren't what you're really looking for. The guitar just needs to sound good to YOUR ears and feel right in your hands.

Ralf,

Hello, I have spoke with you here and on the Strat forum several times. You touched on a subject I had wondered about.

What kind of coustoms tarriff do you have to pay on a guitar. Is it a flat fee or is the fee calculated by the value of the item?

OL

hey oneal long time no talk :) from what i've read we need to pay a fee of 25% of the item we bought when we buy outside the european union... so it depends on the value of the item...

25% that's a chunk of money. So when you go to a guitar shop the 25% is already factored into the price.

What does a Mexican strat cost in your area?

CV 50. Great guitar. I bought one for my nephew for Christmas. It was the white one with gold pickgard and maple neck. Lake Placid Blue is one of my favorite colors, although I don't have one in that color yet. What pickgard color are you changing to?

I find the squier LPB a little lighter in hue/shading than the MIM LPB, but still nice.

i'm going for black and i'm going for a jb in the bridge (since i already have one laying around for a long time if it doesn't work out i'm thinking of going with an sh-5 or a super distortion from di marzio) and i'm doing something (not seen normally) to it estetically that i think will become my trademark if it goes well (it's nothing big really)

you're right!, I live in San Jose, Costa Rica, and Mexican strats can go over $500 here on a store, lots of money goes to customs.

That's why I always smile when they say it's a cheap guitar! :)

I guess if you compare it to an American Standard which can go up to $2,000 on some stores the Mexican strat is cheap after all. LOL

worst part is at least you are an ocean away from the factory, here is a 3 hour flight...
