Hello people :D im thinking about modding a squier strat for metal and have came here today to ask for advice on what you think i should do to the strat. its a bog standard squire no mods what so ever. i was thinking in the bridge position putting an emg 81, but not sure about the other two, i will be replacing the electronics obviously so i can use the emg humbucker, but am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to guitar electronics, im thinking also lock down tuners and replacing the neck.....any advice is welcome no matter how big or small,

thanks in advance :)

Did you ever think of buying a new guitar that seems like a lot of money to put in to a squier. The first thing I would is put some humbuckers in their and as far as wiring it depend on your style. I would put a three way swicth and wire a kill swicth for the bridge pickup and then tuners ,nut and saddles. But parts add up fast but its fun good luck

Here are my 2 cents:

go check out guitarfetish.com . check out the LIL KILLER pickup SET for $60 (they are humbuckers that fit into the single coil slots and the bridge is hot so u will get good metal tones), get a new USA switchcraft input jack, get new 500k pots and ask the tech about what kinda compacitor u should get. all those mods are under $70 total and u will have a whole new guitar - its the cheapest and best way to go. i have used their pickups and they sound great. i have their pickups in 3 of my guitars (squier jazzmaster, squier jagmaster and fender mexican strat). at the very least check em out and see what u think. Also go to guitar center and pick up a set of PROLINE tremelo springs (3 for $8) and make sure u have 5 springs on ur guitar if u arent going to be using the whammy bar. Other than that do a set up on ur guitar or have a professional set it up and ur guitar should be good to go.

Please tell me about your guitar - is it a standard series or affinity or what? what color is it? u might wanna get a new pickguard from guitarfetish that way u can really customize it so the pickups and pickguard and guitar have a nice scheme going on. u might as well make it look bada$$ as well as sound bada$$ if you are going to be modding it anyway.

Good luck.
