I have a 1998/99 Mexican Squier Stratocaster HSS (bought new in 1999). Odd D-shaped neck (that I love) and wide 1.71" nut (also odd). Beautiful two-color sunburst body with white/black/white pickguard.. Tremolo and humbucker at the bridge.

Curious. I haven't seen another Mexican Squier (unless it was a long, long time ago). I think I heard good things about them. I'm sure that would have something to do with the quality control at the Ensenada plant, which is very good (I also have a Fender Standard Stratocaster MIM). This guitar was the only one of its kind in the store. All the others were Chinese or Indonesian. It makes me wonder if it's a rare one. I just don't know.

Anyone have any info or comments on Mexican Squier? I'd like to fix this one up a bit (the pots are dusty and the tuners are inferior, might change the pickups). I like the sound of it, and the looks, but I'd like to put some better components on it, and dress the fret's ends.

Thanks for any help.

Google it Dude, I'm sure there are others. The standards were nothing out of this world so the Squier version should be up to par with it. I don't remember the pickups sounding so great and I found the neck very thick. Changing the pickups would definately make a big difference. I wouldn't change the neck if you are keeping it a collector but I really prefer my Korean neck.

Either way at least you have another guitar to play and compare sounds with. It might someday become a very important member of your tone arsenal.

I have a post in this forum in the "Indonesian and Mexican Squire" thread. You will find the link to The Gear Page. It explains how the 93-98 Squires were primarily USA necks and bodies. With some decent upgrades, Squires of these years are some pretty good guitars.

all we got over in the uk were mexican made squires, this was around 10 years ago. i know this because i helped my mate buy a new guitar to learn on. i dont ever remember there being indonesian made squires. perhaps times have changed.

thought it was a good basic instrument to learn on - great bang for buck
