So I've been lusting after the Duo Sonic, and while I love the guitar, that stupid sticker that comes on the gold anodized aluminum pickguard, when removed, leaves a discoloration on the metal which I nor anyone else I've contacted can seem to get rid of!!! I have searched high and low, I've called fender, guitar center, musicians friend, and it seems that this guitar comes with the sticker on it regardless of which vendor you order it from. If anyone got theirs brand new WITHOUT the sticker on the pickguard - please tell me where you got it.

In my research of this topic, I got a generic answer from fender that "all fender pickguards come with a peel-away lining on the pickguard to protect it"... Well maybe all the guitars with plastic pickguards, but not the duo-sonic.

Has anyone managed to completely remove all traces of where this sticker was on your duo sonic's pickguard, and I mean completely?? look close at all angles of lighting. It has left a spot on the ones I have looked at. I just think its beyond stupid to make such a beautiful instrument, and then bollocks it up with a sticker which has chinese glue on it, and glue is known to be slightly acidic.

So I ask, if you have succeeded in removing this blemish completely, what solvent did you use? Naphtha? Can anyone recommend a solvent that is sure to work?

Thanks and rock on!

Why don't you just get another pickguard? If you are going to play this thing it's probably going to get scratched to hell anyway. I'm sure there are very good quality replacements out there that don't have a sticker on them.

Once you find a suitable replacement then you can really experiment on removing the glue from the orignal or if all else fails pour gasoline on it and tourch it.

Rock on dude!

The anodized pickguard is what makes this guitar so cool, along with the body shape, size, scale length, etc... to get rid of the pickguard and replace it with plastic defeats the purpose of having this guitar.

Well ive come to the realization that this is an unavoidable stroke of idiocy by Squier, tainting such a beautiful creature by putting a sticker on it.

AND CONTRARY TO FENDER AND SQUIER's ASSERTIONS:
This guitar does NOT come with a protective lining overtop the pickguard.

Oh well, I'll deal with it. Pretty sad state of affairs though. At least I got an insane discount on this guitar.

I've had mine since about Feb. 2009 and never took the sticker off. I figured it's just a regular sticker and keeps it looking like new. If I take it off now it'll probably be discolored anyhow. I read on the Tele site someone mention that the protective film and sticker on it can leave discoloration on the pickguard where the sticker is. This os the first time I've heard of the problem with the Duo-Sonic. Cool guitar anyway. I've got small fingers and this is a pretty basic guitar which makes it really appealing.

I ordered Duo-Sonic #1 and it had a glue stain which permeated the radius of the sticker to about 1/16th of an inch in all directions, like the guitar had been heated and the glue had seeped out from under the sticker. It also had discolored, dulled spots on the pickguard elsewhere, like some slob had spattered glue all over it. I removed the sticker, and scrubbed with a mild solvent, and there was simply no getting rid of the stain left by the glue. So I sent it back. I'm not paying for a tarnished guitar.

THEN, Duo-Sonic #2 arrived in MUCH better condition. I took the sticker off and rubbed the pickguard with eyeglass lens cloths, and VIOLA, there is ZERO trace of the glue or any residual discoloration, and now I've got what I wanted, an eye-candy gorgeous little guitar with GREAT blues/twang tones, cool as a cucumber, and she's light as a feather so I can stand up playing her for quite a bit longer time than my Jaguar.

So anyway I'm happy as a clam now. I am putting some brass Wilkinson adjustable compensated saddles on the Duo Sonic, along with gold strap-loks. Might as well add some more gold vibe eh?
