I recently bought my first Tele, A Classic Vibe 50's with Alnico III's. Being New to Tele's I am still unsure if mine is working properly.
Can anyone tell me if their CV Tele sounds like this.. or is this normal for my CV 50's Tele..? When I have my Pickup selector in the Neck or Middle position and the volume on full, I get a nice full range of tones as I adjust the TONE knob up and down. But, if I keep the volume maxed and switch to the bridge p/up; my sound exhibits a noticable decrease in volume if I turn the tone knob all the way down even though the volume is still maxed. It is acting like a 2nd volume knob as well as a tone, control. However, turn the amp up a little, max the volume and turn the tone more towards full in the bridge p'up and I am indeed getting that "Ice Pick" Tele sound.

Also, I took my guitar back to where I bought it. The store owner said I could try various Tele's and see what we heard. I tried the Thinline CV with Alnico V, a Squire Mexican Tele and a Amer Std. In all but the Am Std, it seemed like the p'ups had some variation in output between Position2 and 3, as compared to the bridge position. However the 2 Am Std's I tried seemed more evenly matched as I switched between p'ups and adjusted the tone knob up and down.
I was wondering if my Classic Vibe 50's was just set up to be a "normal" recreation of what an actual 50's Tele is supposed to sound like as one friend suggested. I just don't have the experience to know if this is how my guitar is supposed to sound. If anyone can shed light on this I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Try adjusting your bridge pickup height two nickels on the bass side one nickel on the treble side. Then adjust the neck pickup down to match the level going from position 1(bridge-pup) to position 3(neck-pup), this should balance everything out. Have to make sure this is approached first before one can assume something more is going on.

Thanks for your response. I tried this already to no avail. I found other problems with my guitar so I returned it under warranty.
I got a replacement one that definitely sounds more uniform in all three tone positions. This one is a keeper.
