Hello all,
In the past few months I've been getting parts together to build a Squier version of the Black1. Ever since I saw this guitar I have been in awe but, I could never afford the $1800+ it takes to buy one thus the reason for building my own. I've used a Squier Bullet neck and an mid 90's full sized Affinity body. I sourced my parts through ebay, pickersparts, and guitarfetish. I put in some Alpha 250k pots, Orange drop .047uf cap, vintage wiring, CRL switch, shielding, mint green pickguard, Fender MIM bridge, Fender vintage staggered tuners, and GFS Alnico vintage stagger pickups with kiwi shoe polish tinted neck and pickup covers. I was going to go with the pearl button tuners but I like the vintage tuners. I am almost finished with it but, I thought I would post up some pictures to show.

Nice, can't wait to hear it and see pics when it is all finished. Love the gold hardware, and being a huge fan of Mayer I think it's cool you're replicating his guitar.

Wow... That's really impressive. I'm a huge fan of his too. How much have you got into it already?

Thanks! I don't have much in it really. I bought most of my parts from various online sites. I already had the neck and the body I got from ebay. So far probably $250. I don't have anymore parts to get. Just going to repaint the body and refinish the neck.

Well, I decided to refinish the neck and ended up getting some alcohol based amber stain/dye and I've got some Tru-Oil on the way too. I also bought some laser waterslide decal paper for a new logo. I'll post up my progress and pictures along the way.

Great work! It's looking very nice. You are going to be very happy with the way it sounds. Just take your time and make sure every fret plays it's note in the ballpark with a good tuner and adjusting the string length on the bridge. Send us a wav file when you are done :)

It looks really good. That's some incredible detailing. John Mayer would be proud. Maybe you can get him to sign it at a concert someday.

That is definately a guitar to be proud of. Enjoy!

Cool!! Go for it. Post up some pictures along your modding journey. I'd love to see them. I still have a little bit of tweaking to do to this one. The intonation is a bit off but, I haven't had the time to mess with it. And thought about going ahead and replacing the tuners to the pearl button ones.

I've got one going on Myspace page with gold hardware. Although I don't plan on painting it black I am inspired by your guitars and have used similar parts. I won't divulge the sources not to offend Fender but you can check out my blog. It will be a while before I finish it because it will probably be my last strat if I don't sell or trade it. I've already got a tobacco that is similarly built.
