My vote is with Squier because I could not really see, hear, or feel any differences between the MIM Fenders and the Standard and Vintage Modified Squiers I have played or owned, so why spend all that extra money for a name? Also, maybe I am just older, but with the quality instruments you can find for under $400 these days, I don't think I'll ever spend more than that on a guitar ever again. I'm sure that a $1500 guitar is better than a $200 guitar, but there's a difference of $1300 there which I can put into house payments and other bills, cause whats the point of having a nice guitar if you can't keep a roof over it or yourself.

Squire, when I get tired of the plywood and the cheap pickups I'll just replace them with quality and save a ton of money. Especially if the neck is maple like the new Deluxe.

I voted Fender too. And for me, my next guitar purchase will be a Squier Affinity Tele in Butterscotch Blonde.

Wow! Tough question, I guess it depends on so many factors, ie: budget, are you talking vintage or modern?, are you "image conscience", do you "play well enough" to appreciate the subtle differences in a more expensive guitar? will you probably spill beer on it? will you be upset the first time you whack your mic stand with it? have you worked hard all your life and want to treat yourself? do you have a room dedicated to your instruments? are you trying to re-capture your youth or look like you've been playing far longer than you've actually been alive? are you trying to impress your guitar buddies?

I guess since I own both, I'll have to go play them both and ponder this for a while... I'll get back to you! lol

Fender has quality but Squier has the price. i don't think they can be compared to each other -- it just sort of balances itself out.

Definitley Fender. Personally, yes, Fender's are over priced, but it is because they are top quality single coil guitars. All components are better in Fender than Squier guitars. This includes pickups (usually), quality of body, neck, fingerboard wood, etc. Not only that, but worksmanship (craftsmanship, call it what you may). More close inspection and attention to detail, they make sure the jack fits perfectly, the neck is always right, usually the neck and action are perfect, etc. Fenders outweight Squier's in every aspect except price. But hey, you get what you pay for. IMO, there is NO comparison of a Fender to Squier. That's just my $.02 8)

I have a MIM Standard Strat, a Korean Squier and an Affinity Squier.

There was a big difference is sound quality in the Korean Squier and the Affinity Squier. Must be the body wood.

I've replaced all the pickups in all the guitars.

I replaced the pickguard on the Standard Strat with a pickguard fitted with Vintage Noiseless pickups and put the Standard Strat pickguard on the Korean Squier. Both of these guitars sound sweet! I also noticed that the pickguard assemblies for both Squiers looked exactly the same.

So...having said all that...it's hard to beat the Fender Standard.

My first electric was an MIM strat. After it was broke in an auto accident, I Moved to a Les Paul Plus. I love the Paul but missed the strat. I soon purchased a little red Affinity Tele. Great little guitar. Plays clean as well as any guitar I have played, but I need my distortion fix too. I also tried the '51 for a short time, but honestly the guitar was not as great as everyone raved.
Last summer I purchased another MIM strat. Despite what is said here, and the love i have for my little tele, the MIM wins hands down. The neck is easy and smooth, the pickups are great, never goes out of tune. It sounds great clean and distorted. A hot rails will soon be screaming from the bridge. I now have all three, and plan on soon trading the tele only because it now collecting dust. I think for the price these Squier guitars are without a doubt great guitars, but to me, the MIM fenders are just better guitars.

I would have no problem purchasing a Squier again, but now that I can see the progression, i think my next will be an AM standard strat.

My advise after 5 years? Buy the best you can to start with. I now regret not buying AMSE from the start, but I am glad I didn't or i would have missed these great little Squiers.

Squiers-excellent guitars, excellent value
Fender-better.

I checked Fender but it was a tough choice. If I did not have the money to get another Fender.....I would get another Squire and do some mods as I got the money because they feel so good in my hands.
