I may have a problem with my Tele. It's my first electric so I don't know if this should or should not happen. I believe it shouldn't so I'm asking you :)
After I plug my guitar in my amp I hear a noise which almost disappears if I touch the metal (hardware or strings). It also disappears, of course, when I turn the volume down.

Squier Affinity Tele / Vox AC4TV8 / Good Fender cables

Thanks!

You have a grounding issue. Either your guitar, cable or amp are suspect. Not knowing how you acquired your guitar I would recommend taking it back to the dealer for testing. If the guitar is old then bad pots, switches, input jack incorrectly wired could be the cause.

If your amp is new then maybe a checkup is in order before the warranty expires. Also what kind of effects you are running and the integrity of the hookups is in question (bad cables, low batteries, old effects pedals).

Hope you can work it out and don't stop playing just because your amp sounds bad. You can still practice without an amp in a quite room. Not as much fun but consistency is everything. Play something every day.

The equipment is new (6 months old, with another 6 months of warranty). By the way, no effects... yet :))

I will bring everything to a friend who just moved into a new house and test it there.
If it's a grounding issue it should work well at my friend's place.

I tested the guitar in the shop when I bought it and it sounded OK (I have to admit I was very excited and I could have missed that).

Actually, I hope it's not a grounding issue as I don't know how easy I can fix that.

Thanks!

i had the same problem with one of my guitars... was a grounding issue on the guitar... after i re wired it, the slight buzz was gone but on a normal single coil guitar there will be a slight buzz that will get less if you touch the hardware... while your playing this shouldnt be a problem as you are touching the hardware but if you can still hear the buzz while you are playing with the amp on a clean channel then there is a grounding issue...

If after checking the grounding of the guitar you find all is in good working order, get yourself a new high quality guitar cord.

I use the Monster cords, yes they are more expencive, but they also last longer, sound better and lessen the hum issue.

It always cracks me up to see someone playing a 5K guitar into a 4K amp with 1K in pedals all through a 2 dollar guitar cord and them wondering why they tone sucks.

It most likely is a grounding issue. I had the same problem with my blacktop jaguar but i got it fixed and now its fine. It still buzzes a tiny bit but its barely audible on high gain so its probably a shielding issue. So if after you've grounded it properly and there is still some hum then put some copper shielding tape on the inside of the pick guard that should help. Just remember its a single coil so there will always be some buzz especially under fluorescent light.
