[i'm new here :D]

i was looking around for a Marshall amplifier around Tom Lee Music store because my Epiphone needed one -- then i saw this Pearl White Deluxe Stratocaster for like... 283 bucks.

i've always wanted a Stratocaster and this looked like a good choice. i was checking around for reviews on Ultimate-Guitar.com and what was wrong was... there wasn't any -- the closest i could find was a Deluxe Stratocaster QMT with Alnico PUs. the ones on the Stratocaster i checked out had "Duncan Designed" on the pickups.

my question is -- are those single coil pickups any good? i've tried Alnico pickups before and i wanted to know what's better.

the music i play is usually classic rock. i've been also thinking of a Telecaster as my second guitar.

I don't know about their Single Coils, but the Duncan Designed Humbuckers on my Jagmaster are awesome. Duncan Designed means that the pickups are made using the same specs as Seymour Duncan pickups, but they are not actually made by Seymour Duncan, they are just built to Duncan specs or design. I'd say get the guitar because that is a good price, and even if you did have to end up swapping pickups, it'd still be less than getting a Fender strat. If its at a local store, why don't you just try it to see if you like the sound, as thats what matters the most. Not what other people think about the sound, but what you think about the sound since you will be playing the guitar.

Echoey? I don't think it'd be the guitar, the amps reverb may have been turned up, or if it was a solid state amp, it may have had some onboard effects that were on or something. I'd try and go back to the store and try it on some other amps, or if you are able to bring your own amp down there to try it on, I'd see about doing that maybe.

i should probably go back to the guitar store when i buy my own amplifier -- i've been to that guitar store 8 times in 2 weeks lol they might think i'm looking to steal something.

i was actually there to buy separate stuff like getting my LP restrung, an electronic tuner and checking out the sounds of a Stratocaster and a Telecaster [and a Gretsch.]

i like trying out sounds :P [well researching for my second guitar... which is gonna be a Stratocaster...]

Actually if you are going down there a lot, I'd try to become friendly with the people who work there so maybe they'll cut you a deal or throw in some free stuff when you get your new amp and/or guitar from them. As long as you aren't loitering or are a nuisance to the workers when they are trying to get other stuff done, they should be willing to help you out with some of your questions about the guitars and amps you are interested in. If they are not helpful or willing to help you if they don't have anything else to do, then I'd take your business elsewhere because why give money to a place if they can't be nice and help you decide how to spend money with them.

i don't think they can cut me a deal -- it's a huge business that has other branches. [idk i just think that] but they ARE helpful though.

They may not be able to cut you a deal, but you never know. I used to get some free guitar picks, string winders, stickers, and other small accessories every once in a while from the workers at a store I hung around a lot in when I was younger, so I wasn't getting a lot, but saving a few bucks here and there didn't hurt either. As long as they know you're serious about making some purchases with them in the near future, I am sure they won't mind you coming to the store as much as you want.
