Hi. I just bought a Squier Telecaster Standard and was wondering what strings to use. I am into Blues and Classic Rock and am just beginning to play.

My favorite strings are DR Blues Strings. I use the 10 gauge and love them. They stay very live and bright for a longer time than most strings. For Blues and Classic rock, you want a bright sound with some good sustain, and I think that these are by far the best bang for your buck.

Before I found the Blues Strings, I was using the Elixir Nanoweb's and still love those strings. The DR's are every bit as bright and full sounding as the Elixirs.

I personally think that the Cleartone strings are a scam. I had several sales people telling me that they are far better than the Elixirs and I just think that they sound cheap and not nearly as full or clear as the Elixirs or DR's. I actually went and bought a second set because the first set sounded so bad. I thought to myself: "there's no way that high end strings can sound this awful." I don't know if they just didn't respond well to my gear or set up, but they were legitimately awful.

Hi there Mike. I tried the ghs 10-46 strings and liked them alot. I will take your advice and try the DR Blues strings next time and compare them to the ghs strings. I'll let you know how I like them. Thanks for getting back to me ..... Marty

I am a big fan of Ernie Ball Super Slinky's...Boomers are a nice substitute.

This is a loaded question with many answers! personaly I like Dean Markley's Blue Steel. As a beginner I would recommend custom light set. ie; thinner high strings and heavier bass strings. The heavy bottom strings help when playing chords like C & G so you don't push the bass note's sharp. Pick a set that's mid priced as you won't notice the difference in the higher priced one's until your playing improves. All brands listed are good. And remember to wipe your strings down after playing to keep them from corroding and going dead as fast. One good question is to ask the store which one's they sell the most of, that way your not buying strings that have been on the shelf for years.

I've been using Ernie Ball Hybrid slinky's on my Strat and I like them so far. They are a cross between 9's and 10's.
