Hi!

I purchased a Fender Squier Classic Vibes 50's Stratocaster. It's quite a nice guitar. But, the tuners are squirely.

1. Are the tuners servicable (lube, adjustment)? If yes, are there instructions online, if not, how are these tuners lubed and adjusted?

2. What's the perfect drop-in replacement for stability and tone?

Thank you!

I posted the questions on other Squier forums and got some info!

I put some more 3-in-1 oil into the nut slots and the tuners simmered back down a bit and it's tuning perfectly and holding tune extremely well. So, it seems the issue is primarly in the nut slots and these tuners don't respond well to binding, even after using 3-in-1 oil!

As recommended, I'm getting 800 grit sandpaper and nut sauce tomorrow to see if it will free-up the nut. I'll post an update after I try the sandpaper and nut sauce!

I'm thinking about replacing the string tree too. Any suggestions...rolling, graphite, tele type, etc...???

Didn't need the sandpaper! The nut is fine! The Nut Sauce works extremely well! But, the tuners just keep getting worse!

I contacted Squier today about the tuners! They were very polite and very helpful. They offered to send out replacement tuners, but the tuners were not in stock and would take a few weeks to get here.

I inquired about a replacement tuner. He stated that the Fender brand vintage tuners are a drop-in replacement.

I checked around and the Fender brand tuners can be purchased for $35.00, shipped!

I may or may not try the Fender tuners...I'm still debating getting the Hwy 1 strat instead.

Has anybody put Fender brand vintage tuners in a CV 50's strat?

The tuner holes were cracked on the Squier CV 50's Strat. I sent the guitar back and ordered a Highway One Strat instead.

The first Highway One that arrived was too body heavy and hurt my back, had assembly problems, and had heavy guage strings on it, not 9's as described in Fender's specs. When I put the 9's on, the strings rattled in the nut. I sent that Highway One back too -- I don't keep guitars that are not perfect from the factory!

The second Highway One that arrived is light, about 7.2 lbs. and had 10's on it. I put 9's on it and the guitar is quite nice, nearly perfect, the trem bar is a hint wobbly when screwed all the way in but firm about 3/4's tight, but I like low better -- fixable.

The CV 50's strat was easier to play and was lighter than the Highway One, but the Highway One is really, really beefy and stands up to some serious playing that ALL of the Squiers could not!

Squier's got to step-up the quality control! I recieved two CV 50's that had cracked peg holes, and the first CV 50 that arrived had such cruddy screws and, or the wood was so soft, screws were stripped out all over from the string tree to the tuners to the face plate and the back plate -- from the factory! The first CV 50 played poorly and had defective electronics and the fret ends were poor. The second CV 50 was a smoking hot guitar but was useless due to the cracked peg holes, a crying shame cuz that specimen was nearly perfect, structurally weak and not nearly as durable as the Highway One, by a long shot, but a highly playable guitar!

I had a similar problem with the CV 50 Tele purchase. The first one that arrived was bone crushing heavy, and the second one that arrived was dull sounding and a bit heavy and was just not worth keeping!

I tried two other Squiers that were not good.

I'm done trying Squiers!

Welp, that's my 2-cents after wrangling with 6 Squier guitars and 2 Fender Highway One guitars, receieving only one guitar out of 8 Fenders worth keeping due to quality control problems. All Squiers were poorly built, 1 out of 2 USA Fenders was worth keeping, one USA was poorly built.

I guess I am lucky to have gotten one guitar worth keeping out of 8? NO, Fender needs to do something about quality control!
