Blackstar Amps have Just brought out a 1 watt tube amp, which despite being quite small sounds pretty good, and its quite reasonably priced. Although it is a UK based company afaik and I'm not sure of US suppliers etc.

I would also have to put in a vote for the Fender champ, very cool little amps :)

Drew :)

I know it's not a tube amp...

I bought my son a Fender Mustang I amp for his Christmas present. It's his first amp and I wanted to stay in the fender/squier family. I was messing around with it on Christmas and really love the sounds. It's a little easier and simpler than the GDEC 3 amp that I purchased a while ago. I actually played it for a while and loved all of the presets. The Bassman, the Deluxe Reverb etc all sound really great. Just a great practice amp with great blues/classic rock presets.

It has far more usable sounds than most of the Line 6 stuff that I have tried which have a lot of weird effects heavy patches on it.

Not to be a Fender Party Pooper, but I would go with the Vox AC4TV. It is all tube with a 10" Celestion speaker. It has a built in attenuator. You can choose between 4 watts, 1 watt and 1/4 watt. The power tube is an EL84 and the preamp tubes are 12AX7's. This amp is a tone monster. I had one and sold it to my brother when I bought my bigger Vox AC15C1 and I did a side by side and I could get the same tone from the small amp as I could the AC15. It has a smooth powerful overdrive sound at very low volume and though it doesn't have nearly as much clean headroom as the AC15, you can get great clean tone. It is more British Class A sounding than the champ, but that is not bad.. just different. I can say good things about Fender amps though...They have an incredible clean sound, probably the best in the business. The AC4TV combo is in my opinion on the same sound scale as the 50's Tweed Reissue Champ which cost around $1000. The AC4TV cost is $249.

I have used all sorts of Fender amps and guitars and I can't say anything bad about any of them, but my small, low watt amp preference is Vox.

I agree. The Vox AC4TV is a lot better sounding than the Fender Champion 600 in my opinion as well.

I played an AC4TV today an it is a kick $@! piece of gear for around $250 but I would also suggest a Marshall Class 5 if you want to spend a bit more. Just a couple more options.

Although I would still go with the Super Champ or Vibro Champ.

This post shows off a bunch of they amps that have been brought up here. For me the Marshall class 5 sounds the best but not twice as good as the others, which is the price difference.

I've got a Vox VT30 and I love it, so I bet the VT15's good too.
