My brother recently purchased a Squire Vintage Modified Tele Custom that is fitted with two humbuckers. He's been wanting to replace the HB's with a higher quality set. I'm wondering if most humbuckers would be drop in replacements (I've been told most won't fit by the folks at Guitar Center). If there are a select few then what do you recommend we replace them with (what fits?). My brother and I would like something traditional as opposed to a set of active or high output metal style pups. We would like to put in some kind of PAF (or similar type pup) or a set of the Fender Wide Range pups. Other than the OEM pups this guitar is an amazing piece of work (especially the neck).

Thanks,

The pickups I use are Seymour Duncan Antiquity. they make humbucker and single coil pickups in the Antiquity series... They are hand wound and get the best tone of any of the Duncan pickup.. I love those pickups. I put a set in every guitar I buy. I also read last week that they are Billy Gibbon's favorite pickups. That should tell you something.

I highly recommend these.. I was trying to buy a couple of sets of Lollars and while I was having them installed in another store the neck pickup on one of the guitars was DOA... So I went back to the store with the dead Lollar and they didn't have a replacement, but the guy recommended the Antiquities... I am very glad he did, because they blow the Lollars off the map. I ended up changing out the other set of Lollars with Antiquities...

That is how I got turned on to these pickups and I am very glad I did... The tone is classic and amazing. Apparently he designed these while still working at Fender for one of his own guitars and then again at his own company. You can search youtube for demo's of them if you want to hear them.

Good Luck,

TJ
