It won't be bundled with a game, and you'll need to buy the interface box additionally if you want to use it for RB3. That said, assume the guitar itself will street for $179-$199.

Well I went back and re read everything on every page and it did say that the MIDI controller was separate, I found one on Amazon for $29 Pre-order. It is suppose to arrive on 1/4/11. However I still could not find a confirmed answer as to if the game will be separate or bundled. I wish I could find a definite answer on that one. You do have to have the MIDI controller because the guitar is not wireless and this is how you connect to the console.

The reason there's no bundle is that the guitar is a regular standalone guitar, and a midi guitar (requiring only a cheap midi-PC interface). So the game stuff is all separate if you want to go that way. You'll need the midi converter box plus the RB3 game to play the game. Ka-ching!

Hot dog, I got my notification email from Fender telling me that Best Buy will be taking pre-orders starting today and that the game is included with the guitar. But you still have to locate the MIDI controller (if you can find one), I found mine on Amazon for $29 with no shipping charge and Best Buy sales theirs for $39 plus shipping.

I'd love to pick one of these up, but its available only through the US Best Buy website, which doesn't ship internationally. Anyone heard anything about availability to Canada?

The way I'm reading this is that the Best Buy exclusive is *just* for the preorder. I think a lot of outlets will have this when they start to ship the first week of April (or whenever)...

Here is how I got my order in (I live in Toronto). Go to MyUS.com and set up a basic account $10. Wait 5hrs and they send you an email with a US mailing address. Each address has a unique suite number. Place your order using the US address and phone number they gave you. Note - I had trouble paying with Paypal - it would not authorize the payment because the Paypal billing address was different from the shipping address. I tried to add the US address to my Paypal profile but it would only let me add Canadian addresses. I ended up paying with my Capital One mastercard (sorry Paypal but you are losing business).

Let me know if it worked for you.

Realize that by pre-ordering you're locking yourself in to MSRP. By example, the MSRP of a Fender American Strat is $1,300. Actual street price is $1,000.

I'm just too afraid to ask is this controller supports being strung left handed....

I am sure that a total lefty controller guitar is such a niche product that Fender will never consider making one. I remember that the left handed Line 6 guitars totally bombed a few years ago, so us lefties are bad news for the industry.

I'm OK to restring a right handed controller for left handed (ala Jimi...) but I understand that the midi is sensed by switch controllers on the fretboard. It should be straightforward for Fender to remap this for left or right hand use.

The alternative is to put a midi box between the gtr and midi keyboard that would do the remapping. I haven't heard that one is available (Hey! I could design & implement one in a few days....). Also the remapping would add a bit to the latency.

Can anyone comment? Has anyone found the manual for the controller as it may shed some light on this?

-Andy

This has been an incredibly weird product rollout/non-rollout. They never even mentioned it could control midi until a few months ago. The dates have been slipping into the vague future. I suspect their marketing group is finding zero demand for the product as a very expensive game controller, and zero demand as a midi controller since they've never marketed it as such.

Hey Fender, I'll buy the prototype for $50...deal?

Or maybe they are waiting for us to preorder before taking a decision, and we are waiting for a date to preorder ...
If it was canceled, I would be a bit disappointed, but at least I would stop waiting for it ...
But I've been waiting for this since it has been first announced, and I'm still waiting. What is annoying me the most is the fact that we don't even know if it will be released one day or if we're wasting our time.

I can guarantee you Fender is risking something bringing out a cheap midi controller. It's very hard to make a midi guitar work well, it takes a lot of tech and good design work, all of which costs money. If Fender brings out this thing half-baked like the YouRock guitar, they'll besmirch their rep and have to devote a ton of support time dealing with the PO'd users.
