Hello my friends

I bought my son, 3 years ago, one of those beginners pack, with a Squier SE Special and an amp.
After 3 years, all of a sudden, the neck was bent making it impossible to play. I put the guitar on a luthier and he said that it was unrecoverable because the bending was convex and the truss rod was dead.
The warranty have finished light years ago. I thought I could get a new neck but this luthier told me that it was not worth the neck itself would cost more than the guitar and there was no warrantie that it would fit perfectly in the guitar (considering all the set-up, harmonics, intonation, etc).

Any sugestions?

P.S. - In the meanwhile I already ordered a Blacktop Jaguar Silver.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your son's guitar but I have to agree with your techs remarks. At least you have another (and better IMHO) guitar coming. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply fhopkins. :D

I said to my kid: "If you really want to keep learning guitar, the best is to buy you a better guitar."
As you certainly agree with me, a better guitar, with a better sound, better tone, etc, increases learning motivation.

You might try checking ebay for a neck for your SE. I've seen them on there before and they aren't that expensive. I think it would probably fit right on there too.

Any Squire neck will fit. Even a Tele. You can find them on ebay with tuners for around 40 bucks. GFS.com has some new stuff for cheap a little different headstock but I've heard some good things about their stuff. There was a good post on the forum from a guy that straightened a neck last summer. I think it was on the strat forum I might work for you. Don't give up hope just yet. That Blacktop looks sweet

In addition to the above comments, you can thak ethis opportunity to learn to build a new strat with the remains of the Squier SE. Nothing teaches you more than tearing a guitar apart and putting it back together.

A good quality replacement neck would cost more than a new Squier, but agree with another post. Check out E-Bay for a cheap replacement neck. New neck, tuners, pickups, pots, ect...I bet if done properly, it will be his best guitar he will ever own.

Personally, I think if it's been 3-years and he's still showing interest, and you have the means, buy him a new guitar. Go to a store, and let him shop around a little. It's a cool experience for everyone all around, and I think he'll stay interested for more years to come.

That's just my opinion.

I have to agree. If there is a store with a decent inventory close by, There is nothing better than going in and trying them all and picking the one that calls your name. I remember that Tele on the Top Shelf that I played every Saturday when I was a kid. And then I finally got it. Wow was I happy. That was nearly 40 yrs ago and I'm still playing 8)
