There seems to be loads of threads where one or two diss the Affinity series. As with pretty much all guitars, the quality depends which version you get.

Sure some of the modern thinner bodied and ply bodied guitars ain't so good, but there are plenty of well made Affinity guitars.

Anyway, I've just bought a reasonable 1996 Yako model for £45 (less than $100 for our American cousins) for my son to begin learning on. 42mm solid body, pyramid backed chrome tuners, rosewood fingerboard. Its not a bad guitar at all, and for that money no one can argue.

The only problem is the whammy bar is missing. Having done a bit of research, there seems to be 3 sizes for strats (excluding Floyd Rose and push lock types). The sizes that seem to exist for screw ins are 4mm, 5mm and 6mm. The hole for the bar seems to measure 6mm, but that sounds big to me and it's not exactly a precise measurement!

Does anyone on here know where I can find out the exact spec for my guitar? Any help appreciated.

Hmmm I wonder why you find it tough to get the right size, here I am in a small town in Malaysia but yet finding the right fit for whammy bar is no issue. Just name the model for instance Squier Strat Affinity Series and the guitar store would whipp out the right stick. LoL  How did the whammy went missing, I mean obviously the Strat trem has a thread in hmmm! hehe! I mean at the point in time even if its not intact obviously that trem should come with a whammy bar.

What an odd reply.

Guitar shops in UK don't tend to stock small guitar parts.

Who cares how or why the trem went missing?

Anyway I've now identified the guitar in full thanks to Fender and obtained the correct trem (5mm thread on all Squiers apparently).

Shops in the UK don't stock small parts? hmmm now that's really odd . Good distribution should consider all guitar parts and accessories even as small as a saddle block on a Floyd Rose.

I'll tell you what, you phone up all the guitar shops in the UK to make it happen as you expect.

Look I don't mean to get u all worked up its just that the thought of loosing a Whammy Bar tickles me . Including myself I know many people that play Guitar with Whammy but none of em have ever lost it coz it will always be in the case when not in use.

Anyway the distribution issue was a frank remark. I had similar findings with Ibanez dealers a few years ago hence I wrote to Ibanez and surprisingly they seem to have acted on my report, well it could be partly coincidence partly the voice of a few. Not too long after I see many parts displayed at the stores. Nowadays we have growing number of dealers and availability of parts.

Peace
