Have been playing for a few months, after a long layoff. Really no complaints with the Affinity Squier, but looking to upgrade.

Are the Affinity Squiers considered the lowest of the low? Saw some Made in China Squiers at Guitar Centers for 349 that looked nice. Of course I'd like to eventually move to a real strat, but not there yet.

Would it be worth it to upgrade now? I'm looking for a push, guys.

Any direction appreciated. Thanks.

I do not think the Affinity Series is a bad guitar. It is what it is. The electronics are not the greatest, but if it plays good you can always upgrade the electronics. In my opinion it is one of the better starter guitars to begin in the FMIC family and it will grow with you, if you are on a budget. Just know that any money you spend on the Squier guitars will not enhance resale values...but the same is true for any Fender guitar.

You could either be talking about the Vintage Modified for the CV series. $349 for a Squier...I have a CV 60 Stratocaster that I payed $300 for a couple years ago. I play mine as much as my 2 MIA Stratocasters. It does have some cosmetic changes to it, but other than that, it is completely stock.

Please do not think a Squier is a cheap knock of of their bigger brothers. I chose the CV 60 Stratocaster over all the MIM Stratocasters I played because it played and sounded better than the MIM Standards I played.

If you are one of those people that have to have "Fender" on the headstock, then yes get a Fender. You will never be happy until you do. The MIM Standards are also great starter guitars and will grow with you as well. I just couldn't see paying $400 (at the time) for a guitar that was going to need instant modifications.

I like the Affinity Squier maple necks. I had a blonde Tele Affinity that I hot modded into a very nice guitar.. The unfinished maple necks are great. The rest of it is so so.. The body is usually ok, but the hardware is less than desirable.

If you are a beginner you get a decent beginners guitar. If you are a guitarist.. You get a cheap neck and body to mod... Win, Win..
