I have answered this question many times. It really depends on you. Are you a Fender hound or can you live with a Squier? I have owned my CV 60 for a little over a year. Aside from some cosmetic changes, it is stock. I play it as much as I play my American Special and Highway 1 Stratocasters.

When I bought my CV 60 I was looking for a MIM Standard for a back up for my HWY 1. I played many MIM Fender Standards and just could not throw the money on one. I played the CV 60 and bought it without even thinking.

In my opinion it is built just as nice. The stock pickups are not that bad, in fact the MIM Standard pickups really sounded bad to me in all the ones I played. I love the vintage tuners. The trem block is not that great, but neither is the Fender MIM Standard. I absolutely love my CV 60 and would not give it up for the oportunity to have a MIM Fender Standard Stratocaster.

So in short, I love mine and in my honest opinion I think they are just as good, if not better than the MIM Standard.

I always tell people to play as many guitars in their price range and the one will make itself known eventually.

Johnnie, didn't we just go though this in your last post?

It's your money, spend it any way you want too.

And a good used MIM off e-bay will run you less then 300, just saw a black one go for 127.90.

Musical instruments>Guitar>electric>Fender>Stratocaster.
Once there you can put "MIM" in the search bar, but I find just using the Lowest price+Shipping brings them up to the front.

You can also put in -Squire -Squier so they will not come up.

As to pick ups, for the sound you are looking for this set from Guitar fetish would be as good one. and at 75 buck for hand wound it's a bargain.

While your there, pick up one of there brass tremolos.

http://store.guitarfetish.com/105mm-Chrome-Spaced-quotImport-quotMade-in-Mexicoquot-BRASS-BLOCK_p_1158.html

It increases sustain and and gives a bit more warmth.

You are never too old to learn to play. You may wish to take lessons, they can shave years off the learning process. Have fun.

I will be turning 50 this year, and I am still learning.
