I was wondering if anyone has experience playing both fender and squier guitars? Are CV squiers up to par with lower model fenders? Whats up with the different tints on the 50s cv models???

I bought a CV 60's last year. I personally think it's on par with Fender MIM guitars. But the more I play it, and the more I see what they offer in the Tele models, I'm kinda kickin myself in the a** for not waiting a little bit and picking up a CV Tele Custom. In my opinion, the best of the series.

I own a CV 60 Stratocaster. I think it is on par with a MIM Standard Stratocaster and a little cheaper in price. I bought it instead of a Fender Standard. The CV 50 has Alnico III in it and the neck is pine.

I play it as much as my American Special and my Highway 1.

pine neck? really? I am thinking of buying a 'maple' neck 50's burst, should I be saving my pennies for a classic series fender?

Did I say pine? I meant maple. Like I was saying, I love my CV 60 Stratocaster. You should be able to get a used Fender Stratocaster for the same price or less than a new Squier CV series.

If you can, try to play as many guitars in your price range and see if you like them. I am happy with my CV guitar.

The body of the Classic Vibe 50's Tele is Pine. But, so is the LSL T-Bone hand made Tele that is getting rave reviews.. The lighter the body the better.. The CV with a pine body sings... sweet.

The bodis of the CV strats are 3 piece solid alder. The 50's has an all maple neck and the 60's has a maple neck with rosewood fretboard. They both have alnico pups in them...IIRC the 50's has alnico 3's and the 60's alnico 5's. They sound really good. Nice tone! If you get either, the only thing that may need to be upgraded, is the switch, pots and trem block. Which are relatively inexpensive upgrades. Actually the pots have a nice feel to them. When you turn them, they have a nice smooth feel to them. Other than that, the guitar is nice. A good solid instrument. It doesn't feel cheap.
I have a 60's and I love it. The only thing I've done to mine is I wired the second tone pot to the bridge pup.

Your best bet would be to go and play one to see how YOU like it. You may love it or you may not. As far as I'm concerned, I think it is a great investment for your money. I love mine.
