It has a standard midi/5-pin jack on it, but Fender refuses to refer to it in any press release and so far has never mentioned midi in relation to the guitar. Can anybody shed any light on this most curious development? If in fact it does output midi, it'd be a super cheap (estimated $199) midi controller and worth serious consideration.

Yikes, apparently even FENDER doesn't know if it has midi. Maybe I'll have to call the Qingdao Qisheng Musical Instrument Factory where they make em!

Still trying to get this info from a Fender rep. Is this some kind of corporate secret or something? The guitar was demoed at E3 fer cripes sake, it's not like it's some stealth product.

I'd like some info on the Squier for Rock Band 3 also. I've been wanting to pick up the guitar again after several decades off, and the video game setting seems like a perfect fit for me.

Specifically looking for release date and pricing on this bad boy.

Fender is being incredibly silent on this one, especially given the fact that they trotted it out at E3 and had guys playing it and all, and they discussed it openly. But for some bizarre reason, the one thing they never said was if the 5-pin midi port outputs true midi or some game junk.

I have to wonder if they're killing the product since the YouRock Guitar died a horrible death and no other RB controller to date costs more than $49.

Asking kids to pay $150+ for something they're not asking for may have given the Fender beancounters cold feet.

Me, I could care less about the idiotic game BS, I just want it to be a cheap midi guitar.

It looks like it's not a product targeted for you, so you should try not to be so high-n-mighty about it. This product is designed to relay finger position data to the game, along with string data, so I don't see how it can be straight midi data. The whole purpose is to create and transmit "idiotic game BS". The guitar has a string muting block built in and all the press states that it doesn't even have to be in tune to play the game, so you should probably look elsewhere for your cheap midi guitar fix.

And as for the facts, most video game guitar controllers cost more than $49.

I just want to know the price and release for the Squier.

Way to go, Darky! Huge props for finding this and unlocking a huge mystery! Even Fender reps refused to discuss it in recent days.

Hm, first midi guitar ever made by Fender. That is, a guitar that actually outputs midi, not that 13-pin junk requiring hundreds of dollars of additional hardware and resulting in latency.

Not only that, it uses strings instead of switches--potentially a huge advantage.

Very exciting news, to say the least.

New info page and MSRP...

http://www.fender.com/rockband3/exclusive/?EDID=GK8PG5Z-M9YF-OJOMLH-V1Q29-A437-v1

Being marketed 100% as a game toy. No mention of midi in the vid. Sigh.

Note the little print at the bottom - the guitar requires the use of the MAD CATZ MIDI Pro Adapter sold separately. Don't forget to add that to the cost! around $35

That's only for the kiddies. The guitar outputs straight midi, ready to drive and sequence VSTi's with no additional hardware beyond a standard PC/midi interface box. Too bad they don't have a USB out.
